Opinions on nightfeeds for 6mo?

DS is ebf and has two night feeds. He was only having one for a little while and now back to two. He seems to take quite a lot at each feed and he's not that hungry when he wakes up for the day. It makes me wonder whether he is reverse cycling a little. Started weaning recently and having one meal a day. Will move up to two soon.
Just wondered - would you stick with this pattern or try to cut nightfeed down to one again? Maybe by reducing one feed by a minute every few nights? Or do I just ride it out a while longer? I have an older dc so can't rest in the day. Thanks!

Most research now suggests night feeds are normal and appropriate until at least a year and beyond for many babies (especially those who are EBF) I know friends who had had BF babies who have slept through from very early but this seems to be the minority. My 13month old wakes between 3-7 times. I co-sleep from first waking and then feed back to sleep each time. Will probably look into night weaning around 18months. It’s shattering but manageable. If you do want to adjust things, I highly recommend Lyndsey Hookway - her info on gentle weaning looks excellent. Good luck with whatever works best for you and your family. Don’t feel you should have to change things if you and baby aren’t ready.

Mine had lots of wakeups at that age because he was teething. I did feed at each wakeup but the wakings got more frequent: at a certain age milk just stimulates and gives them energy to wake more often.

Not to say that you shouldn't give a feed. 6 months is very little and all babies are different. If you find he is waking more often for milk, in that case I would try and hold back on the night feeds. If he's only waking once or twice then crack on. There are big developmental changes at that age and he may just want to wake up and practice his new skills

Both my ff and bf babies had at least 3 feeds a night at this age. Would you go 12 hours without a drink?

Thanks all for the advice and info.
Not expecting him to go 12 hours @Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas but he was having 1 night feed for a while and now it has gone back to 2. As he is not hungry upon waking for the day, I am wondering if the timing of his feeds is a bit off. And as he is dc2, the least sleep deprived I am, the better for both kids.
