Hi, my 12 week DS has been in his cot bed for 2 weeks now as he has grown out of moses basket. He's a big boy was big at birth 9lb 11oz and during tummy time during the day he can lift and hold his head up for a good 30 seconds before having to put it down. 1st night he was in cot I noticed he turned onto his side to sleep. He seemed happy but I knew then I should stop swaddling him so he's in a love to dream transitional swaddle. Few days later I woke up to find him on his front. He seems quite happy but I rolled him back as everything I've read said it's a nono. Fast forward to today every night since he's on his front majority of night I flip him back but that wakes him up and have to bf to settle him back to sleep. I just found him on his front again (both arms are free so he can roll back) but I don't think he has ability to yet but he's fast asleep and settled. Do I leave him when I find him like this or keep flipping him back? It's every hour I find him on his front. His head is to the side so airway isn't obstructed. I'm a FTM so pretty clueless when it comes to this. Don't know if this makes a difference but his cot bed is right next to my bed so he's in Easy reach. Sorry for the long post.

The guidelines are once they can do it themselves then it's fine leave them. My DD is a tummy sleeper although she is older at 5m

I was a bit freaked out when mine started doing this and would flip him back every now and again. It took me a while to get used to it. It's supposed to be okay once they can put themselves there but I felt a lot better once he could flip himself back again. We did lots of practice for that in the day to try and speed it up! It took a couple of weeks I think x

@oliveroses how did you practice during the day?

Leave him in the position he wants to sleep in he will be fine !

@Kittycaz I lay him on his tummy and wobbled him a bit / propped him a little on his elbows but supporting him so that he could feel how his body could turn. To be honest it probably wasn't that effective but I think the more tummy time they get the stronger they become so it might do some good!
