Started my son on purées around 5.5 months old! Just for tastes.

Hes 7mo this week and I’ve tried to move to more solids (he has weetabix for breakfast) but like sometimes he’ll eat it sometimes more of it is on the floor and sometimes he just refuses? Is this normal??

he’s not totally disinterested in food he eats when I feed him the weetabix and will put things to his mouth and eat but it’s a complete hit and miss?

Is this normal xx

Yes, very normal! If he doesn’t want it, don’t stress, just try again later/the next day.

My DS went through a phase for a few weeks around 8 months where he refused to eat anything even though he was doing really well before.

Are you giving him things he can pick up and chew on too? Cooked carrot sticks, cooked apple pieces, strawberries, melon, banana etc.

At this point it’s just good to get him used to a wide variety of foods, don’t worry about how much actually goes in.

Perfectly normal op. The health visitor told us "food is for fun before one" and to just experiment with diffent tastes and textures using family food as a basis. As the weeks go by they build up to meal sized portions particularly when they find something they really like. With one of my girls the turning point was cooked carrot sticks, the second loved chilli and the third loved pasta twirls... Once they discover how nice those things were they really suddenly understood eating and less and less ended up on the floor. They still had food behind their ears though, lol

Haha perplexed is a good way of describing it, my DS used to just let the food drop out of his mouth if he didn’t fancy it, and would give me a look.

Have you tried toast fingers? Pancakes are a bit of a tricky texture I think, my DS wouldn’t have them until he was a bit older, but they’re all different.

Don’t worry, mine is a good eater generally and really wasn’t interested in banana pancakes despite liking banana and egg separately!

nothing wrong with finger foods but you can start to add in protein & dairy as well as the fruit and veg to make it more of a meal

They don’t really have any concept of meals though so won’t care if they get leftover courgette for breakfast.

And you don’t have to give them a protein, fat, carb, veggie & fruit for every meal, just make sure they get a variety over the day/week

Scrabbled egg is a good one to try too, easy to pick up.
