Baby shower gift wishlist ideas

MamaFoxToBe · 27/07/2022 18:17

Baby boy due in September. I'm having a small baby shower at the end of Aug and friends have suggested creating an Amazon wishlist for them to buy gifts from.

I've got all the bigger items (e.g. bedside crib, pram, car seat, baby bath) and luckily have been given loads of second hand clothes from friends who have had babies recently. So I need some ideas of what to put on the list that I may need for a newborn.

The only things I've come up with so far are sheets for the bedside crib and those black and white flashcards 🙈

If I was you I’d go with the smaller things that you don’t realise you need until you really need them, usually at 11pm at night.

Cuddledry towel
Infacol
Calpol
Saline nose spray
Thermometer
Metanium cream
Snoozeshade
Baby nail clippers
Love to dream swaddles
Breastfeeding pillow
Hakaa pump
Waterproof mattress cover (yours and baby’s beds!)

stormelf · 27/07/2022 18:54

Baby wipes
Cheeky wipes (best thing I've ever used with my kids and wish I'd used them for my first. I bought these off Amazon)
Nappy cream
Baby toiletries (baby bath, moisturiser etc)
Flannels
Nappies
Travel changing mat

Nothing very exciting but just thinking of all the practical things that you need and constantly need

Loads of people will be along soon to tell you how 'grabby' baby showers are (a word I've never heard anywhere but on here) and to piss on your parade. Ignore them. If your pals have made this suggestion I'd say the list above is a good one! Have a lovely baby shower :)

And muslins, muslins, muslins!

Dove88 · 27/07/2022 19:05

I know it sounds ridiculous but if you’ve not got a nappy bin add that! It’s something I never would have bought myself but it’s so much easier than trying to faff around with nappy bags late at night!
Also those milestone cards, I didn’t buy any because I kind of assumed someone would. We didn’t end up getting any and I really wish we had

BeanieTeen · 27/07/2022 19:38

Everyone could buy you a pack of bibs and a pack of muslins each and it still won’t be enough 😂
Also vests.
socks always get lost and disappear
Baby sleeping bags
baby towels with the hoods are handy

But I do think it is also nice to get a surprise or a cute outfit you wouldn’t have thought to buy or from a shop you didn’t think to go in. A lot of independent gift shops have lovely baby items. It’s good to have the Amazon list as a back up for those who really don’t know what to buy but I’d definitely emphasise it was optional if people want to get something else they can.

stormelf · 27/07/2022 20:22

Yes definitely muslins! I have all mine from first child but still needed more when second one came along and needed more still when third arrived. They are so handy!

Allthecoloursoftherainbow · 29/07/2022 15:21

I would ask for clothes in bigger sizes (and taking the season into account!)

Once the newborn phase is over and you're putting all those special first size things away it's nice to have a lovely outfit to go in the wardrobe. It's also nice to have clothes that you wouldn't necessarily buy yourself. We were given some White Company sleepsuits and JoJo maman clothes that I wouldn't have bought for the cost but we're sooooo lovely and lasted ages.

BeanieTeen · 29/07/2022 16:22

I would second that. 0-3 months seems to be everyone’s go to, but we ended up with way more than we needed in that size. A couple of things for past that point would be nice.

Titsflyingsouth · 29/07/2022 16:42

Muslins galore. Can never have too many...

Baby bath

Baby sleeping bags are ace (make sure you match the thickness to the age/season of baby. Eg if your baby will be 3-6 months in Dec make sure you get a winter-weight one for that age range.

Sudacream - miracle stuff

Microwave bottle steriliser if you plan on bottle feeding (these are awesome things - like large lunch boxes with a tray for water. They turn water to steam which sterilises bottles) But we found them amazing for when we were away visiting family.

Travel cot if likely to be doing overnight visits anywhere.

Clip on parasol for buggy.

Teething toys - Sophie the Giraffe or teething rings.

Baby hats - either summer or winter

Nappy bag (choose one that comes with a portable changing mat)

Changing mat for the house - cheap and chips and invaluable. We had one upstairs and one downstairs.

EdithWeston · 29/07/2022 16:46

Muslins, definitely - perhaps the prettier ones if they want to give something a bit more special

Baby socks - they vanish more quickly and more mysteriously than those for bigger DC and adults, so you can't have too many

Baby toiletries

Baby massage oil

Bath toys

Maireas · 29/07/2022 16:53

Genuine question - when the baby is born do you get more gifts, or is that it?
(No such thing as baby showers when I had mine, but people very kindly gave gifts after the birth).

SamanthaVimes · 29/07/2022 17:08

Muslins
clothes in 3-6 and 6-9 months (you’ll need them before you know it!)
sensory box (usually have ribbons/flashy balls/foil blanket etc)
high contrast books or cards
baby bath / bath seat
mirror for the car
teething toys eg matchstick monkey

Moonandstars2118 · 29/07/2022 17:13

Groegg room thermometer
White noise machine toy like a Moonie
Clip on pram / car seat toys

PorkPieForStarters · 29/07/2022 17:21

So exciting!! Yes definitely clothes in slightly bigger sizes, he'll need them before you know it! Thinking along those lines, also things like sippy cups or suction bowls so you're ready for when he starts weaning?

If you're going to spend a lot of time at grandparents' homes, then duplicates of things that they can just keep there is handy so you don't need to lug everything with you each time. Stuff like cups, dummies, muslins, bath toys, nappies, cheap high chair etc. Obviously check they have space and are happy to store it though!

MrsSamR · 30/07/2022 15:35

White noise machine - SnuzCloud or similar
Thermometer/nightlight for room ie GroEgg
Bath thermometer
Bath support
Nice wedge changing mat
Muslins as others have said
Baby blanket
Soft squishy books/pram toys

Porridgeislife · 30/07/2022 17:46

Specific brended items we’ve liked:

Shnuggle changing pad
Baby Shusher white noise machine
Ubbi nappy bin
Hana baby wrap (amazing when they won’t nap)

Also agree that Cheeky Wipes are fantastic. We’ve used them since day 1 and they are just so much easier than wipes.

Also consider putting a baby monitor on your list as well.

MamaFoxToBe · 30/07/2022 18:49

Thank you all, some great suggestions added to my list x
