How long did it take your LOs to take to nursery?
my lo is 14 months and starting 2 days 9-3pm.
it’s only week one but it’s been awful
not eating well or sleeping
crying and crying at drop offs
I’m so worried this is scaring for my Lo
im not allowed inside, I know everybody says to persevere but I feel so bad.
my lo has been extra extra clingy since starting aswell

Mine goes to nursery but he’s younger. There have been issues, but not with settling.

No way I could have been comfortable sending him somewhere I’ve never seen inside. That means he didn’t do a proper settling with you there the first time or anything. What’s the reason for that?

Following with interest as my DS 15 months is due to start soon.

Has the nursery said how DC is once you’ve gone?

My DS cries a little bit when I drop him at my mum’s, even though he absolutely loves being there once I’ve gone. I think sometimes the crying is just a reaction to you leaving, it doesn’t mean they hate where you’re leaning them necessarily.

Hope it gets better soon.

It will take a lot longer to adjust when they are only going 2 days a week.

My 12 month old cried at drop off and pick up for about a week, then only cried at drop off for another week or 2, then a week or 2 of grumbles and then she went over happily. She was attending full time.

My LO is also 14 months and also does 2 days a week, 9-4. The first 4-5 weeks he cried at drop off and just cat napped during the day. However he’s got so much better recently, goes happily to his key worker and we got our first hour long nap yesterday! It does get easier, I promise.

If they’re settling happily after a reasonable length of time after drop off then persevere. The settling in stages at nursery have been some of the worst parenting experiences as it goes against every instinct you have to leave them somewhere when they are bawling. But most children go through it, most get over it after a couple of weeks.

He just needs to get used to you not being there then he should settle. Is there an alternative to nursery that might suit him better?
