Little children ALWAYS ILL

I have a 3.5 year old and a 1 year old and they are just always unwell. Oldest has been in nursery for a year. I just don't know what's normal but he seems to pick something up maybe once or twice a month and pass it to the baby.

We wash hands after the toilet and before eating and have a bath as part of bedtime routine most nights.

I just don't know what's normal but it feels relentless! Is this amount of illness normal? Very lucky to be able to say it's nothing serious just virus after virus with the odd tummy bug thrown in.

Totally totally normal and be prepared for it to get worse! Nurseries are bacteria breading grounds and they will swap and share. We usually end up catching whatever our toddler has so the full household goes down with it but I have found doing the following has helped;

Adults taking a-z multivitamin and a vitamin d spray daily
Wiping toddlers hand with a wet wipe then antibac on collection from nursery
Giving toddler a probiotic every night before bed

We average a cold or viral infection once every three months now but before it was every few weeks with multiple trips to A&E due to raging temps.

@Mazzatron i should add that we are all fit, healthy and exercise daily. We rarely got ill before the little one started nursery so it was a big shock to the system for us. The average viral infection rate of a nursery going child is 10-12 a year…we did that in the first 6 months, it was truly awful but she’s 2.5 now and found her grove with it all.

Completely normal. The good news is by the time they start school they'll have had everything and they'll have cast iron immune systems and won't pick up most of the bugs that go around!

I have 2 DS 6 and 3. In the same boat. Ds3 has just woken me up by vomiting all over my bedroom floor...lovely start to summer hols. In fairness I think this is a reaction to preschool booster, but on the whole. It's a runny nose, cough, virus, temperature and it feels pretty constant. When I compare DS6 to DS3 o do think the little one has it worse and I think that's a result of having so much of his life isolating and everyone around him smothered in antibacterial gel.

Totally normal especially when at nursery as they pick up all the germs. It is them building up their immunity systems. My eldest had a runny nose it felt like everyday for three years.
good news is by the time they get to school it’s not quite so bad as they have better immunity. Although my son did seem to catch a lot of colds in reception this past year, I’ve put that down to the lock downs meaning he has had less chance to build up his immunity.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I do feel better to hear other people have been through the same.

Hopefully they'll have ox strength immune systems one day!
