Best school uniform

Hi all,

My son will be starting school in September (primary) so I am looking into the best place to get durable yet cost effective school uniform. The jumpers have to be logo'd but everything else can be non branded.

Will also be looking for good places for PE kit too and shoes.

Basically any advice or recommendations for any school kit welcome!

Many thanks :)

Watching with interest. I will probably stick to MS as it worked for nursery. I wish I could find more stuff in wool though.

@Timide I just wondered if M&S is worth the money considering they will no doubt get lost/dirty/ripped etc!!

I was recommended M&S for trousers without buttons and was quite surprised that the prices were lower than I expected for small uniform, especially with the 20% offer.

Can you enquire as to whether the school has a second hand sale for logo items? We got lucky and picked up 3 on our local Freecycle page. There was also a second hand sale run by the PTA at a school event recently.

I think it's much of a muchness and really comes down to personal preference, different fit of clothes and how much you want to spend.
If you have a child who spills stuff down themselves and falls over a lot, you'll either have to accept that they wear stained/holey uniform or that you'll replace it a lot.
In most cases they will have grown out of it by the end of Reception so you'll have to replace then anyway.

Probably not applicable for you, but our school has yellow dresses. The Asda ones were insipid by half term, the M&S ones still lovely and vivid. However the collar of one of the M&S ones has ripped this morning. It’s done two years duty though, as last years still fit!

M&S shoes, ASDA for all the non branded stuff. If their not confident with polo buttons, asda easy on have hidden velcro instead.

Also check with the school what they do for pe. DS's school decided to stick with coming in in kit on pe day (started during covid), so we got joggers insted of shorts and black trainers instead of plimsolls.

I find sainsburys good. Lasted all year with only one hem needed putting back up this month. Not got any knitwear as use school crested ones. M and s also good. Had to buy skinny and go down an age bracket in trouser/shorts but I do have a skinny boy.

@Rosebud1302 we also have experience with Morrisons. Preferred their polos, as they are better fitted. Altogether both Nutmeg and MS were good.

I’ve used sainsburys and m&s. Both seem quite good and last the year. I usually buy when they have their 20% off offers. Our school second hand shop is full of Next, M&S and sainsburys so i presume they’re the ones that last the distance. I quite like the stain protect white polos. They do seem a bit better for general grime than the normal ones.

I always used next. Next day delivery to store with the click and collect. You can get practically everything. Shoes, trainers, pe kits even bags and stationery. No better and no worse than anywhere else quality wise.
