I fancy trying reusable nappies other than Terry squares.

I've been using Terry Squares for the last 20 months, but fancy trying some 'fancy' reusable nappies, iykwim.

Tom is 21 months, not sure how heavy he is! What do I need?

there are some fab experts around here, but havent seen any of them tonight

if they don't wander through tonight, try tomorrow.

We used Kooshies, they were great. Quite sad that DC3 has decided to toilet train herself early! She is 25mo, still fits in them fine, and my boys wore them til 2.6 or more. I think what you do might depend on whether you plan more children, from an economy point of view.
We moved on to Tots Bots from 2.6 onwards, they have a good website so might be worth a look.
I am no expert at all tho, and you will get fantastic advice from the ladies "in the know".

Ooooooooh - so many nappies, so little time... will back back at lunchtime!

You wanting to stick with a 2 part nappy and wrap system, or try out pockets and AI2s too?

pukkapatch · 18/01/2008 08:38

i saw the title, and thought, aha, a job for flame. but she is already here before me i see.
flame is the fount of all knowledge nappy related.

I think whatever is the easiest option would be better, as DF isn't too interested in trying different nappies, but if they are easy, he might be ok, iykwim. We do want another child at some point.

If you have been using terry squares then any is easy tbh!!

I think it would be a good plan to get a mix so you can see for yourself.

Do you nippa or pin your squares?

What kind of wraps do you use?

How do you dry?

(Sorry for the questions)

BexieID · 18/01/2008 12:35

We use those nippa things instead of pins, as hated the thought of stabbing Tom with the pin!

We use the white plastic waterproof pants from Mothercare.

We air dry (inside/outside depending on weather) and finish off in drier if needed.

Yay - nippas gooooooood

The mothercare pants don't help me size wise, but unless he is diddy then he is probably a large in wraps.

Bamboo is nice and slim.

If he hasn't got a wide bum, then bambinex are great, if he has, then I would go with bambeasy.

Bumbles are lovely cotton ones.

baby Beehinds have some great bright colours.

If you want something more personal then I would tell you to get yeself over to www.weenotions.co.uk or www.babybufters.co.uk - both homemade wahm nappies

To fancy things up you can just get pretty wraps to go over your squares - again, weenotions are fab. Nature Babies do some great patterns too. Motherease are reliable, but not a great range of designs.

Wacky wraps are cute.

ooh or there is the whole other exciting world of wool and fleece

Pocket nappies - Fuzzi Bunz are reduced in most places now because they are changing the style. If you look in the small business section for Nappyzone, she has patterned pocket nappies too (weenotions do pockets as well )

For luxury style nappies, Berry Plush are amazing! They are soooooooooo soft. They are on my site (bumfluff, in the small business section).

Bamboo take a long time to dry if you are used to squares, so bear that in mind.

I get a bit excited about shopping with someone else's money

Sizes - most wraps you should need a large now, nappies, size 2 or a large I would say.

Nappyzone · 18/01/2008 16:32

would that be the business section with my non existent add which i have nearly finished now i have resurected it from my something drive . bumgenius are 2 for £14 and worth a try alongside what flame mentioned but most placs are selling out of them now - i have some left . they are easiest of pockets and b irth to potty.

FlameNFurter · 18/01/2008 19:50

pmnsl - yeah that one

BexieID · 18/01/2008 21:29

Thanks. I'll have to have a think, but maybe getting some nice looking wraps (plastic pants) would do for now. Tom is in the XL plastic pants as they cover the entire nappy, iykwim.

Every morning his nappie is absolutely wringing wet. I take it this is normal for reusable nappies at night? Or is it just the Terry squares? Or me?

You might be better off with an extra booster in there.

Boomally · 23/01/2008 20:14

There's nothing wrong with terry squares, or you! I agree with Flame, you should boost the nappy, particularly at nightime, and terry squares are more versatile for doing this imo. What sort of nappy fold have you been using? The "kite" fold, with another terry nappy pad folded on top should solve the problem, although I've just been trying out the "bat" fold, which is a bit neater, and gives plenty of padding between the legs, and at the front for boys, where it's needed most! As regards plastic pants, the Mothercare ones are good, but I've found the Disana ones from Twinkle Twinkle to be better quality, with nice soft stretchy leg openings, and plenty of room to cover the bulkiest of nappies.

babyjjbaby · 24/01/2008 19:23

Boomally what is the bat fold lol

BexieID · 25/01/2008 21:39

I fold them the way my mum taught me, lol. In half, like a triangle. Pull one part of the the nappy up between Toms legs, flid over one side, then the other part of the nappy between his legs, then the other part of the nappy and clip together. If that makes sense, lol. Not any of the ones on here.

hawesmead5 · 26/01/2008 10:27

Bexie I have a few spare boosters lying around at the mo would you like me to post them to you?? They are only terry ones I'm afraid but they might help.

Boomally · 26/01/2008 12:09

babyjjbaby, you can see how to do the bat fold on the site BexieID mentions, but I don't quite understand the fold her mum taught her!

babyjjbaby · 26/01/2008 16:13

thanks thats what i use now

BexieID · 26/01/2008 21:36

hawesmead5 - that would be great! My e-mail is BexieID @ hotmail.com

I'll take photos of 'the old dragon way' using one of Toms cuddlies! Althought thinking about it, it looks like it could be the kite fold, or a variation on it, lol .

OP posts:
hawesmead5 · 27/01/2008 12:42

Just going to email you now Bexie

Boomally · 30/01/2008 16:40

I thought it was the kite fold BexieID, from the way you decribed it, and the fact your mum taught you! My mum used it on me. It's probably the oldest and best fold.

BexieID · 30/01/2008 22:42

I think my MIL must have done it that way too, lol. I'm just no good at reading how to do folds and putting them into practice, which is why I didn't 'cotton on' at first!

OP posts:
Boomally · 31/01/2008 10:52

One thing I forgot to mention was that I found it very difficult to use nappy nippas with the kite fold, because it needs fixing at each side, so I use nappy pins.

BexieID · 31/01/2008 11:09

I use the Nippas ok with that fold. I think I would need 2 pins, lol.

Did you see my post about the weights, BexieID?

BexieID · 31/01/2008 12:02

I did yes, 40lb+? My head is spinning with all this nappy buying, lol. I really want something I can use straightaway, Tom is 29lb atm.
