Advice for speech delays!

So my second child has a second speech delay. My eldest didn't really get going with his speech u til he was about 2.5. He had glue ear though and his grommets certainly helped move him forward.
My youngest turned 2 2 months ago and he has very limited vocabulary. So far he can say - the alphabet, count to ten, apple, car, bus , banana, star, circle... he can also say (but others might not understand) a few more words.
I think he understand more words, but just doesn't use them. He loves listening to songs so he mimics a lot to songs but the understanding of the words mustn't be there.
I'm gutted I'm here again with another speech delay. I have really tried my hardest to do the things I thought I didn't first time round :(
He's starting to get frustrated and I think it's due to the lack of communication!
So please hit me with all your tips, insta pages, books... anything!!

In the same boat. Eldest was also speech delayed but this was due to autism. My daughter was saying around 2-3 words and is getting better so she is really limited. I’ve found Instagram the best if you search some speech and language therapists. What really brought her speech on lately was ms Rachel on YouTube. So many other mums recommended that to me. It also has songs on which is why my daughter is more interested in it

I found the NHS SALT provision woeful, not due to incompetence but lack of staff. I paid privately for sessions for a while and seemed to make the world of difference.

Ah yes my eldest was under the speech therapy team and I honestly thought it was the biggest waste of time ever. He was seen once every 3 or 4 months and no input really! I don't want to go down this road again so I really want to try and put a rocket up home learning and hopefully avoid!!!

There is a new app being developed to help parents with supporting speech development at home. You can sign up on the waitlist here:

pippinspeech.com/

I'm looking forward to it being released so I can get some ideas on how to help my little one's speech!

I think you're eligible for DLA too for children with speech delay. I got it for my son when he was 2 (he also had sleep apnoea) and have just reapplied for it now he's turning 5. Helps towards costs if you want private speech therapy.

I also blogged about the application. speechdelaymamma.blogspot.com/2022/08/disability-living-allowance.html

No advice but my 25 month old has exactly the same range as yours - counting, letters, fruits, shapes but very little functional language. She wouldn't know how to tell me she was hungry for example.

I second Miss Rachel on youtube but I am just consistently narrating every single thing we do. I know she understands me and she can point out objects on flashcard books etc so I'm not sure if its glue ear? So I am just persevering and hoping she catches up!
