Taking newborn out in the heat?

Clueless FTM here. I have a newborn (less than 2 weeks old) and we are ready to start going out more for walks etc. With the upcoming heatwave I was wondering what a maximum safe temperature to take her out in the pram without overheating would be? What should a newborn be wearing in the pram in summer? At home she is mostly in a short sleeve vest with muslin cloth as a cover but I guess she will be in nappy only if it reaches 37 degrees.

Another silly question - can she still get sunburnt in the shade or is it safe to have her uncovered in the shade in the garden (which is usually cooler than the house). We also have an Uppababy Cruz which seems to have good shade and some ventilation but not sure if it acts as a heat trap. I guess it doesn't need an additional pram parsol though?

You can't get sunburnt if you're out of the sun. Do you have some grass? Put a blanket down on the grass in the shade and let her lie on it in just a nappy.

On a normal twenty odd degree summer day you'll be grand, depending where you are in the country you might just need to lie low at home Monday Tuesday

I’m not sure people realise how hot 35+ degrees is. That’s 35+ in the shade. I’m sure you’ll realise on the day when you step out of the door, when it’s that’s hot your house will be cooler than outside, it will be uncomfortable outdoors for most people, and it will certainly be too hot for a newborn outside, even in the shade.
(You can burn in the shade by the way if UV levels are very high - it depends on your reflective surroundings and on the type of shade cover you have, hence many prams and pushchairs will say they have UV proof shade cover - so you should generally apply SPF to children whether in the shade or not.)

You need to be really mindful that newborn babies CANNOT regulate their own temperatures.

You need to be so careful with a baby, personally I would have them indoors in the coolest room in the house.

Uppababy Cruz’ are typically black and the fabric is made of a type of plastic. Even though they might have more ventilation than other prams, they still inhibit air flow and get warm. Newborns get dehydrated easily and overheat easily. Like pp, I’d stay indoors too.

I wouldn’t - I got pushed into taken my two month old to the beach a few years ago it was 30 something and I hated every minute of it I just worried , I put him in a uv tent on the beach and his lips started to look really dry and cracked (probably starting to get dehydrated) I kept him in the beach hut for the rest of the day. Just try an keep cool indoors as there’s a red warning issued.
