How much does your 1 month old eat?

DC is just over a month and FF. Seems to be eating 4oz every 2-3 hours. We do try to push for at least 3 hours but sometimes around 2hrs 15mins he starts screaming and nothing but a bottle calms him. He'll spit his pacifier out and I hate seeing him scream like that so I feed him 'early'. Overnight he does usually go 3 hours. He also does spit up some but not constantly or anything.

Any tips? Shall I try 5oz or is that too much? Not in the UK so no HV to ask, so only option is make a doctor's appointment if necessary.

DS had a bottle every 90 minutes - 2 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night at that stage.
If he's hungry, feed him.

Make the bottles bigger…at one month you can make up a 6 Oz bottle and just stop when the baby stops

Mine at that age was drinking around 3-4 oz every 2 hours. He wouldn't take more than that at a sitting but liked drinking often :)

Feed babies on demand, not on a rigid schedule hours apart. Look for early feeding cues, not late ones like crying.

What do you mean feed him 'early'? If he's hungry you're feeding him on time.

Ignore what the books say and listen to your baby

If he's hungry, feed him.

This.

The advice now is to feed on demand as much as they want to eat. It is has been found until kids are about 3 and are socialising - unless they have a medical/health disability - they will eat until they are satisfied.

The only time I ever fed to a schedule was while we were in hospital as the midwives told us to. As soon as we came home I fed on demand.
Best advice I've ever got in regards to feeding is to watch your baby not the clock. You'll be so much more relaxed too if you do, we used to make a note of what times he was feeding and how much, think that stressed me out more rather than reassured me

Mine was 4oz every 3 hrs and stayed that way for months. I would just stick to what your doing.

Harrysmummy246 · 16/07/2022 14:21

Feed on demand, don't try and push it

Harrysmummy246 · 16/07/2022 14:22

And there should always be a little left in the bottle rather than drained empty
