Senior school choice

Hello

Looking for opinions on which school you would chose for a sensitive, mildly dyslexic but super bright girl.

Opt 1 - very pushy academically and sporty, strict co-Ed school.

Opt 2 - very gentle school that encourages girls to focus on fewer subjects but achieve higher grades. All girls.

My concern with opt 2 is the early narrowing of the curriculum for a naturally arty child who will be happy to drop the more challenging subjects asap.

Which does she prefer?

Option 2 but this is mainly because all her friends are planning to go there.

What is the SEN provision like in each school?

In other words what has each school said on how they will meet your DD's individual needs.

There is no point sending her to the academic school if they don't have provisions in place to recognise that at times your DD's dyslexia will make it hard for her to do well in say a timed piece of writing under exam conditions.

That's a valid consideration. I'd go for her preferred option. She's more likely to do well wherever she is happy.

If the 2nd one has decent sen i would go with that one......mental health and support is really really important for kids with mild sen as it can be really frustrating for tgem especially as a teen and tge pressure of gcse etc kicks in..

She wont be able to drop maths and English so wouldn't worry too much about playing to her strengths rather than challenges .

My ds similar and his school did options end yr8 and i was worried in advance but he was just relieved....about dropping lessons that were torture (dt/art for dyspraxic kid in his case)..

Thank you for all the replies I think opt 2 is the one for us.
