Should I get bottles?

I'm hoping to breastfeed my baby but obviously, I don't know how successful that will be so do I need to stock up on things like bottles anyway (in an ideal world, at some point I'd like to express some milk so baby can be part bottle fed).

There are lots of really good deals as part of Amazon Prime Day on Tommee Tippee anti colic bottles and I'm wondering if it's worth while just ordering some? If I do, are they actually good bottles to go for? Are there better ones to be looking at instead? It's a minefield! Advice very welcome.

Just be careful about having the pre made formula there if you want to breastfeed. My experience with friends and family is those that had it 'juat in case' used it, and then couldn't BF.

Your main milk doesnt come in for a few days, dont think BF isn't working, baby needs to be latching lots to create milk demand in those first few days, if you give formula it could disrupt this.

BF is a different mindset to formula as you don't know 'how much' they are getting, you have to lool at other signs they are getting enough. I have had friends who couldn't deal with theis and switched to formula very quickly to know exact quantities

If you're worried about BFing by all means get in the bottles and formula if it will help you relax but also do some positive things about the BFing like:

going to your local BFing Support Groups before baby arrives.

Knowing what to expect

Learning about Tongue tie and

Learning what good drinking looks like

Of course none of this will guarantee that you'll be successful BFing but it might mean that you've got a good chance Wink

I spent over £50 on bottles sterilisers etc when pregnant 'just incase' (Tommy tippee).

None of it was ever used because a) breastfeeding was successful and b)even when I expressed he never took tommee tippee bottles. I got a MAAM bottle free with my boots advantage card which he took to. And nuk bottles were the best.

I would pick some up if cheap/free but wouldn't worry about missing out on that deal.

I would have some ready made bottles at home.

I thought I'd be able to feed DD. She was born by elcs and we were discharged 24 hours later - I thought she was feeding, but in fact she couldn't latch (turned out to be tongue tie). When she was weighed at 3 days, on a Sunday evening, she'd lost 14% of her birthweight. The midwife phoned our local hospital; the registrar said she had to be fed milk immediately, and every 3 hours for the next few days. DH had to go out for milk; finding somewhere open wasn't much fun, and initially we syringe-fed DD. Having formula at home would have made that night somewhat easier - I'd definitely have bottles and formula in the unlikely event we have another child.
