Kids party food

I am panicking.

I'm holding a party for my Daughters 5th birthday soon.

We've got a hall and a bouncy castle. I'm thinking of doing pizza, nuggets, sausage rolls, crisps, party rings, fruit. That sort of thing. Any other ideas??

Also, MIL has just been asking if we will be doing lots of party games. It's a small hall and it is my worst nightmare standing in front of a load of people and playing games. Perhaps just one round of pass the parcel??

Help

You won't need anymore food.

Pass the parcel is a hassle, I'd do musical statues instead.

Balloon swords are always popular.

I always put a fruit bowl down at my kid's parties and it always getting eaten

You will need a couple of people to just be doing food while you are looking after the kids if you’re doing hot food.

Can all the kids fit on the bouncy castle at the same time? How many kids are coming?

That food sounds good although are you going to cook it before and serve it cold as to serve it hot would be a hassle. Fruit always seems to go down well so I’d get a decent amount.
we had 20 kids with a bouncy castle, some play apparatus and a ball and goal and it was plenty for 2 hours . I planned musical statues in case they got bored but we never needed it.

hoohaaar · 10/07/2022 15:01

No, I definitely won't be offering hot food but got worried when she mentioned it!!

Ok great, glad like that sounds like enough food!

I'll consider pass the parcel but may not bother.

Thanks!

Any way for ice lollies? If its still this warm I'm sure they'd appreciate them.

All the rest sounds good though

Scotinoz · 10/07/2022 16:56

I wouldn’t bother with games. Bouncy castle, load of balloons, and a couple of those ‘fringe curtains’ (just Google what their proper name is) if you’re feeling fancy.

A bouncy castle and balloons will more than occupy a load of 5 year olds. Oh and shove on some music.

And I wouldn’t bother with extra food

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee

Genius idea on the ice lollies!!

Sounds good to me, plenty of options there for fussy eaters, vegetarians etc.

I would do some group games personally, but I like doing that sort of thing. If it's not your bag, the kids would be quite happy with music, bouncy castle and food. I would probably have a table with some colouring sheets or very simple crafts for the children who want to take a break, some kids don't want to run around the whole time :)

Triffid1 · 10/07/2022 21:58

I would simplify the food. We usually did hot dogs (frankfurters) in buns, crisps and fruit. If you want to get fancy, make fruit skewers which fir some reason the kids always love. Have some music playing for them to do some dancing, musical statues and you are done.

SausageinaBun · 10/07/2022 22:21

I'd do something other than letting them bounce on a bouncy castle. Groups of underoccupied children can turn crazy. Anything that adds a bit of structure is good.

PoisonedIvydaffs · 10/07/2022 22:25

Add a crazy table if you want an activity but don’t want to be too involved (I’d hate to lead party games too). Colouring pages of favourite characters / theme, crayons / pencils, and stickers. Baker Ross do loads of craft stuff if you want to get fancy.

PoisonedIvydaffs · 10/07/2022 22:25

Ooops! Craft table not crazy table!

headiiinthecloudsssss · 10/07/2022 22:34

Definitely just do cold food, chicken, pizza, cocktail sausages, all the usual beige party food is fine.

Could you hire a cheap party host type person? Just someone cheap and cheerful with a microphone and speaker who can play music and party games? It's easily done yourself or by a confident friend/relative if not.
I'd say it's worth having something planned to give the party a bit of structure and stop the kids climbing the walls drenched in sweat guzzling fruit shoots like there's no tomorrow 😅

I'm hosting a kids party this weekend in our garden.

Food
Pizza
Sandwiches
Sausage rolls
Cheese onion rolls
Popcorn
Crisps
Cakes
Loads of ice lollies
Loads of cold drinks

We have booked a disco dome castle we will also have a ball pit and I just ordered a load of soft footballs.
Not thought about games but normally do things like musical statues
