So DS had a high temperature at the start of the week. He was coming off the back of covid and after a trip to the doctor who said there were no issues at all so may be he picked up a routine virus whilst his body defences were down it eventually broke on Thursday.

Yesterday and today he has sat anywhere between 35.7-36.6 and has been about 35.7 during the night even in this weather. I know that his normal day time temp is 36.4ish but have never taken it at night so are unsure what his 'normal' is.

Basically I'm worried (yes he is a first born). He's acting normally, feels a normal temp if not a nice temperature/slightly cool in the mornings. Could this be anything serious? I think it's because on Tuesday he was hitting 39 and now he's below 36.

As I say demonstrating no other issues/symptoms, active and happy during the day and his temp going about 36, not saying he is hot or cold but now I've read the word sepsis I don't know what to think.

DH thinks I'm overreacting as there are no other signs or symptoms and it's just what his temp is and as long as he continues to be normal and not develop anything we should leave him be!

Am I overreacting. Should I call 111? We called when he first had covid and hit 39.8 and was being lethargic and they weren't concerned so not sure if it would be worth the worry to do that at this time of day.

Please can anyone help?

Anything under 38 is not considered a temperature, if he's fine in himself eating drinking etc I wouldn't worry. Although trust your instincts my son had an ear infection a few weeks ago he had no temp but just wasn't himself so I thought something was off, I took him to the gp they looked him over and found it. I apologised as felt I was wasting there time and she told me to never feel guilty about going to them the worst they can say is there's nothing wrong.

Sorry just reread that I think as long as it stays above 34 it's fine. Have you got windows open etc. we use black out blind in my sons room so his room gets really cool I have had to cover him up a couple of times where it's got a bit chilly x

I dont think he's acting poorly to be honest. I would have thought if it was sepsis he would've shown something else by now/been sleepy but nothing at all. He was also thoroughly checked by the GP on Wednesday including a urine sample etc and nothing flagged at all.

I suffer terribly with anxiety so struggle to rationalised things like this

i would be inclined to just keep an eye on him.

what age is he?

elephantmarchingin · 09/07/2022 22:03

@Mrsmch123 he's 3. He doesn't say he's poorly or anything hurts when I've asked which he did say when he has been in the past.
DH says to just keep an eye too
