Not a big deal really just wondered if anyone else’s reception child didn’t have a school trip at all the throughout reception? my dds class have not had any whereas my older children have had about 4/5 this year. Thought they would do one at the end of the year at least but nope.

Hmm most kids go on 1 a year but they need more staff when taking younger ones so possible reason why that age group hasn't been

My year 3 child has had 2 this month alone, 1 already and one coming up on Tuesday, does seem like they’ve been having loads my reception age child keeps asking why she never had one so just wondered if it was unusual

At my son's pre-school he's had 20 trips in one year! 7 trips to forest school, 7 to our local beach and then trips to lots of other places e.g. country parks, farm, allotment.

I know this is way above average but I still think not even 1 is pretty bad. Even a local area walk is better than nothing.

The number of staff you need for a Reception class trip is prohibitive. You need approximately one member of staff to 4 children, and volunteers can't count in that. Makes it a nightmare to organise.

My dc is in reception and had a trip to the pantomime at Christmas and a trip to a farm last week. They've also had 2 drama workshops in school, visits from various different vehicles and some local walks etc in the village.

Ah I see when my son was in reception they have 2 school trips so not even 1 has surprised me not even a local walk or anything so was wondering if things had changed since then.

bakewellbride 20 wow that’s loads! Was starting to think 4/5 was loads my kids have been clip and climb, park, museum, beach, Farm, theme park, one went to the Houses of Parliament...wasn’t expecting anything special but I was thinking maybe they would do just a park trip at the end of the year or something as there are loads local enough for it not to be a big deal.

Mine are in reception. They are about to have their 3rd trip next week.

The only time my yr4 has left the school grounds this year (during class time) was for Road Safety. They practiced crossing roads.

Coach costs have gone through the roof apparently.

My DD is just finishing year 1 and she's had no trips in the last 2 years outside of school!!

I'm not sure that's right. I work in a school, granted not in reception. We're going on a trip next week and we don't have that ratio of adults for our receptions.

IronChef · 08/07/2022 20:53

My DC have not had any trips at all until this month. One was a 5 minute walk around the local shops. The other was to another local school for an hour. Meanwhile friends DC's are off to the zoo, museums etc. really disappointing, hopefully school will offer more next year.

@underneathleaf It depends on your cohort and where you're going. Taking into account behaviour issues, SEND etc, I wouldn't be happy taking responsibility for a class of children with a higher ratio than that. There is no legal ratio, we have to plan based on our risk assessment.
