Ella’s Kitchen pouches in the Times today

my mum sent me an article today in the times about Ella’s kitchen pouches, saying some of them contain more sugar than a can of coke!!! I’ve had a look and it seems to be the fruity ones. Apparently worse if you let the child suck on the pouch.. but horrified as baby boy (6m) loves these and eats a ton of them.
Food for thought!!

“They also said that pouches were worse for teeth than food from jars that is fed with a spoon. The contents are designed to be sucked directly from the pouch, meaning the food spends more time in contact with a baby’s teeth just as they are erupting. This puts them at risk of tooth erosion and decay.”

(not sure the share token will work)

Ok, you're talking about fibre, the issue is with sugar and acid.

the fibre has an impact on the sugar and thats the difference between whole fruit and puree fruit, the fibre has been changed and thus the impact of the sugar also

But they don't add any sugar. It's the same as getting a lid of fruit and blending it

I remember reading that some jars of baby food have more than a toddlers RDA of salt in a single jar.

started looking and true enough. Heinz is particularly high salt content

I thought it was illegal to add salt to baby food ?

Ideally yes, you would just give your baby a bit of pear or apple or banana. Cheaper too.

BLW has become so popular that it’s easy to feel a bit of a failure when it doesn’t really work out. I couldn’t get DS to engage with it. Everyone insists that they don’t need teeth but I think he did, tbh.

He does still have some pouches now. It’s a good way of getting liquid in him if he’s poorly or it’s hot. His diet is broadly speaking really good so I am not worried. I think what would be a worry is if he was only having these along with lots of sugary things.

Which is the whole point, blending fruit is NOT good for the teeth, eat it whole and it's fine.

This was on TV yesterday. I think the point is that its bring sold as very healthy and good for babies. . But it rots teeth the same as sugar. More sugar in this than a can of coke apparently.

What nutritional advantage does smooth puréed fruit from a pouch have for a baby over a chunk of banana or a piece of broccoli?

I'm just here to say I love your user name @AnneLovesGilbert

That's not true. If you're going to make a criticism, make a real one, don't just make up absolute nonsense to feel included. They contain fruit/veg and water. That's it.
