New school

My son starts a new school in 2023. He is small for his age but everyone knows him where he is. I am worried that his size will make him a target for bullying so I am preparing him well in advance. Does anyone have any ideas for how he should respond (politely) if it is commented on?

How old is he?

MaggieB1977 · 07/07/2022 12:29

He’s 11

I think you're overthinking this. And it is certainly not a good idea to "prepare" him for being bullied about his size, all that will do is make him feel like his height is a problem.

My DS went to a small primary school where he was one of the smallest. In the larger, more diverse pool of secondary school he really didn't stand out as particularly small. Also remember there is a huge range in sizes during Y7-11 as they hit puberty at different times.

Thank you Molliciousintent good point I don’t want to worry him.
However he is a good 12 inches shorter than his friends and does stand out.

Have you seen a GP?

MaggieB1977 · 07/07/2022 16:28

He is seeing a specialist who is tracking his growth. She is relatively happy but he will soon be going out into ‘the wider world’ He already says ’good things come in small packages’ but I was wanting to arm him with other ‘phases’
