Pushchair conundrum

I’m due DC2 any day now and have been swinging back and forth over whether to get a double pushchair or not.

DD is just 2 and quite good walking short distances BUT naps in her pushchair.

A double is expensive but means both DC could potentially nap at the same time when I have them together but I’ve also been thinking about getting a cheap umbrella type stroller for DD for her nap (she spends 2 or 3 days a week at MILs and we’re planning on continuing this so if they took the current pushchair I wouldn’t have one for the new baby on those days)

Am I mad to not get a double? We can afford it but I don’t want to spend money if it’s not necessary. I think DD might drop her nap soon too which would mean a second pushchair (whether a double or a single) wouldn’t get much use long term.

Sorry for the long ramble but would love to hear what more experienced parents have picked and any pros / cons I haven’t considered.

27 month gap here and we couldn't have done without the double. Just because a two year old is a good walker doesn't mean they will be next month, they're fickle! Dd1 is 4 now and it still comes on the occasional longer walk to get her home.

@SamanthaVimes Not sure how helpful this is but I've just taken a couple of photos of the seat as flat as it will go (I have an insert to support my 5 month old so taken one with and one without)

Photos probably don't show it but it's not entirely flat. But only has a very slight incline, a bit like a baby bouncer. My DC sleeps fantastically in it and I'm happy that he's pretty flat (and he actually prefers a bit of a slant)

I can't comment on the newborn insert from birth as we used the carrycot but the reason I didn't get the insert is because (I think!!) the baby faces outward so you can't see them as well as the carrycot which is parent facing and higher. But I also know a few people who got the Phil and ted cocoon and used that with it.

Hope that helps?

We had similar age gap and same debate and were really glad we got the double. On some trips, we took the single plus buggyboard but we used the double at least 50% of the time for about a year. It gave the option of a nap for DC1 and strapping DC1 in if they refused to walk or get on the buggyboard without having to wrestle with getting DC2 in sling first. It was definitely worth getting.

I bought a second hand mini city and got 18 months use out of much to my surprise.
i think the gt is slightly better but there wasn’t one available locally

I picked up a double second hand at 40+14 having decided previously not to. I was so pleased I did, even though it wasn't used massively. It was particularly brilliant when I had both children on my own, especially on days when we were out for longer periods.

I sold it a couple of years later for marginally more than I originally paid for it 😁 That was a Baby Jogger City Mini GT.

Totally recommend picking one up second hand, I imagine there's quite a few OnA's around. Just keep an eye on the market to figure out the going rate so you don't over pay. There's a good OnA FB group which would be useful.

Could you get a bugaboo donkey and you can then just use it as a single pushchair afterwards or get a Phil and Ted's. Can also be used as a double or single.
Both could be found on eBay if you didn't want to pay full price. X
