Trouble with bottle feeding

I have a two week old and I’ve moved from breast feeding to lactose free formula as she seems to react to milk and it’s hard to remove all traces of diary from my diet (I also had tremendous feeding battles which lasted hours).
However, bottles seem to give her constant hiccups throughout her naps and feeding causing distress and disrupting sleep. This is irrespective as to all the burping I do and keeping her upright for 20 mins afterwards.
I’m using Dr Browns bottles and have previously tried Lanisoh bottles both with the smallest test. Has anyone else have this issue with bottle feeding? How do you cope with it?

There is lactose in breastmilk; it's not something you can remove or reduce as it is the sugar in your milk. If you wanted to cut dairy from her diet then its a cows milk protein free milk you need not lactose free.

Oh no! Maybe that’s the issue then. I’ll try goats milk formula

Goat free milk is full of lactose and isn’t suitable for babies who are allergic to cow’s milk. As a Mum of two with CMPA, I found dairy free breast breast feeding hard but easier than the battle for medical support. If you think your child has an allergy you need to speak to the GP and ask for a referral or a paediatrician.

Have you had any medical advice on feeding OP?

Get medical advice

You need to speak to a dietician. Ask your go for a referral.

If you can still breastfeed go back to that and go dairy free in your diet. It's much better than the CMPA formula.

That is specially treated to breakdown the protein that causes the reaction (it's not lactose)

My son has CMPA and he was always better with my milk than the formula.

Goats milk will have similar proteins to cows milk formula.

In what way was she reacting to your milk?

Good grief! There is no formula for this! I have a toddler and so not sure how I can manage breast feeding for 2-3 hrs at a time

She begun showing reflux like symptoms such as regurgitating, hiccups, croaking sounds, etc and so very disrupted sleep. However, being only a few days old, she’s too young for infant Gaviscon and so I thought I would try going dairy free. There was a difference in only a few days. However, I have trouble breast feeding her. She’ll feed really well for 20 - 30 mins, sleep for 5 mins and then wake up rooting for more milk. However, she will not actually take any more milk and will be in a daze staring at the breast. This will go on for about 1.5-2hrs after the initial feed. I tried burping, skin-to-skin, swaddling, rocking to sleep, dummy, white noise. Nothing works. With a toddler, I just cannot spend 2-3 hrs feeding her. Bottle feeding seemed quicker at first but pumping constantly and at the right times is tricky. Any way, I though formula would be the best way but it seems not.

It's hard breastfeeding with a toddler but do able. My eldest was 2 when my youngest was born.

If dad is around he needs to be 100% focused on toddler.

If he isn't CBeebies is your friend.

I also fed a lot sat on the floor playing with one hand or cuddling eldest while feeding.

There are specialist medical formulas but they taste horrible and are different to ‘normal’ formula. It can also be a bit of a faff/battle finding one your little on tolerate and will accept.

If you can still breast feed I would stick baby in a sling and get out and about to the park and groups to entertain your toddler. If breast feeding isn't going to happen then, yes, GP.
