Where to put baby …

I’m a FTM to a beautiful little boy who has just turned 4 months old. At the moment, he loves to sit in his bouncer chair whilst I sit in front of him and entertain him with his toys but he has almost outgrown it now.

I’m just wondering where your babies sit during the day whilst they are playing once they no longer fit in their bouncer chair? Hopefully he will be sitting independently in a couple of months but does anyone have any recommendations in the meantime?

On a play mat, ensuring some tummy time.

Angryatlife · 04/07/2022 14:17

Tummy time on a matt. Or on his back on a matt with one of those standing mobile that they can try to reach with hands and feet. Bumbo chair.

Mat on the floor! SO much better for development than being in containers.

On the floor.

My ds went on a playmat, and in a playpen when I went to the loo, had a shower, hung out washing etc. Mine was a determined escape artist by the time he was 6 months old. 😀I couldn't safely turn my back.

Floor with tummy time and toys as said above

Giraffe sit me up seat (Fisher Price)?

Bumbo seat?

I’ve got the same issue but I am lucky in that my little girl really loves tummy time so I put a little mat down for her with some toys and she lies down on her tummy or practices rolling for quite a long time whilst I get bits done but she really does need a chair too!

Hugasauras · 04/07/2022 14:30

DD loved the giraffe sit-me-up chair. Think it's Fisher Price.

A 4 month old baby isn’t going to want to still and contained for much longer.

DisgruntledPelican · 04/07/2022 14:40

On a play mat. Then from 5 months (ish), into a high chair in the kitchen so they were a better height and could watch me cooking, baking and washing up as well as play with something on the tray.

We also had one of those activity circle things that was advertised for use from 4 months, but I waited a bit longer until DS’ legs reached the floor on it. It was a Skip Hop one that turns into a table & chair when they are older.

Not in the corner!

MrsB902 · 04/07/2022 16:50

Thank you for the suggestions, I’ll look into them - hadn’t thought of using a high chair but that’s a really good idea too! He does enjoy being on his play mat and on his tummy but his favourite position is sitting up so wanted to have some other options for allowing him to do this.

@WinterMusings your response tickled me 🤣

Yep on the ground on his playmat is best because from 4 months he'll be starting to get more mobile, rolling and rotating around! The more time he spends on the ground, the more time he has to practice these skills.

I think mine went in a jumperoo just for 10 minutes here and there around 5 months old but it depends on neck and core strength.

MoonKnight · 04/07/2022 18:30

My 2 youngest loved the jumperoo from about this age. Only 20mims here and there, rest of the time was on a playmat or a galt nest. They were both sitting independently by 5 months (the youngest beat her brother by 1 day on all the big milestones 😂) with a big pillow behind them

collieresponder88 · 04/07/2022 18:36

Jumperoo

WinterMusings · 04/07/2022 18:37

@MrsB902 I'm glad it tickled you. Definitely as much time on the floor as possible. It'll help him not only to crawl & walk, but it helps with their internal development too such as digestion & bladder control.

EBathory · 04/07/2022 19:03

Flat on the floor/mat so they can develop proper muscle tone to sit independently
