I'm not sure whether to 'properly' start potty training my dd ??

I would be really grateful for advice on my situation. My DD is 2 in 3 weeks and several weeks ago started telling us when she had done a poo in her nappy. We started to take her nappy off after dinner to see what she would do and unprompted she started to use the potties we had left around the house - we were impressed ! She continues to go to the potty for poo's - but rarely goes to it to pee - though she will sometimes do it if prompted. I imagine the feeling of a poo coming is more prominent ?? Once when I put pants on her in the house, she even poo'd in her pants - maybe they felt like a nappy ?? Also - she never says, Mummy I need a poo/wee - she goes to it herself - so if she was nappy less and out and about, I can't imagine she would tell me she needed to go. When we start potty training properly I don't want to go down the pull ups route, I want to put her straight into pants and accept there will be accidents. My query is - from what I've described, do you think she is ready for us to start training her properly ie take the nappies off for good (except at nights ) ? She moves to the next class at nursery soon where most of the children use potties so I have thought maybe I'll wait and see how she reacts to that because I imagine she'll want to do the same ??

Yes! Sounds like you're on the road. Give it a go, if it doesn't work out doing it cold turkey, you can always change strategies after a few weeks. My boy was ready at almost two and for various reasons I left it for a whole year...

Definitely ready to take nappies off for good. If you leave it any longer, you risk running into all those problems with resisting (psychologically and physically). I always asked mine if they needed a wee, every half hour or so, until they went.

Hi it is definately a promising start my dd2 (2.8) was no where near ready a few weeks before xmas but i tried again last week and she has taken to it like a duck to water and has only had 4 accidents in over a week, now just got to try without a nappy at night. I have bought a shower curtain for under her sheet in preperation!

My DS was/is really similar.

From 16 months he has used the potty by himself - just taken himslf off to it, but ONLY when he has had a bare bum. So he has not worn pants/trousers/nappy in the house for about 6 months!

It has taken me that long to get confident enough to try it outside the home though. We tried training pants, and washable and disposable pull ups, but ll of these seem o feel like a nappy to him, so he wees in them. Even normal pans trigger weeing!

So we spent a few weeks wearing just trousers in the home (no pants), and he has slowly started to tell me when he needs to go.

Ad this past week, I have taken him about in just trousers, and we have had accidents, but more sucesses. I do have to ask him quite a bit, as he is still not likely to tell me when he needs to go (I think he is just distracted by being out and about), and on a few occasions, notably, in the middle of Sainsburys, he has told me he has needed a wee and has held on while we dashed too the loo! Hurrah!

He is 22 months.

Go for it! I am so happy to be washing the odd pair of soggy trousers, rather than all the faff of nappies.

normal pans = normal pants, sorry

go for it..my dd was telling us for about 3mths before but when in knickers was not doing anything. She is 2.1yrs and 3wks ago I decided ot make a concerted effort with potty training with prompts going bare bottomed etc and now she is completely out of nappies day and night without a single accident.

Thanks for all your advice - things are still the same - poo's in potty, wee's on floor. I am confident that when she moves up to the next nursery class and sees the other kids going on the potty she will want to do the same. Am so proud of her though as she is still under two. Good luck oliviaelanasmum.
