5 month old Tongue tie advice

I had an appointment on Monday regarding my son's suspected tongue tie and it was confirmed in the pediatrician words "not the worst I've seen" and recommended that we leave it alone. At the appointment he pointed out that the ties are normal clipped for breastfeeding discomfort for the mother and as I'm not breastfeeding its not an issue for me (his words). Also because he is (finally) gaining weight it's unnecessary. After trial an error with bottles he finally started gaining weight on MAM bottles but pervious he was gaining only 6-9oz in 3 weeks.
When we where asked if we wanted to clip or not I felt like he was the expert so I agreed with him. In a way I was relieved in saying no as I didn't want to cause him any pain by putting him through the operation but now I'm thinking I should have got it clipped. The pediatrician only saw his mild tongue tie but not the daily battles me and my son go through.
A little list of his struggles:
*Reflux (sometimes to the point of acid reflux then he wants to comfort feed)
*Constant hiccups
*Coughing
*Super gassy
*Burps all day long
He hardly sticks his tongue out or when it does it's always down in his bottom lip. His range of baby noises are very limited. His favourite is a fake cough at the moment. He can't stand tummy time he will literally just star fish drool and cry. Which I'm worried it will delay his milestones. I just don't know what to do. Has anyone had any similar experience or gone through a tongue tie release?
Any advice?

I'd get it done. We had all of the above with DS and then problems with weaning (he'd only have super smooth purées until ages 1) and then he had to have speech therapy.

Just ring the Paed's Secretary tell her you've changed your mind, you'd like it snipped asap. Simples. Not an issue.

My sons tongue tie was cut at around 8 weeks old as we had feeding issues. They advised it would be a GA he'd be under after 12 weeks. My son was scored .. 0 being no tongue tie, 14 being the worst. He was a 9 I think so fairly bad. They said best to get it done as it can affect speech when they're older. It's your call but I'd get it done esp seen as its causing issues :)

I think its shocking they only do it for breastfeeding babies. My son had his done as I was breastfeeding but my niece wasn't offered as she was on bottles. She had terrible problems with reflux etc.

My son was fine after its very quick.

He’s right to push you towards no at around 5 months, especially if you haven’t made clear the rest of the impact you are seeing. Your baby is right at the cusp of where they stop cutting them (and won’t go near it if he gets teeth).

it’s billed as a simple procedure, but that’s really not the whole story. It can be quite upsetting/uncomfortable for baby afterwards, no matter what the HCP says. I’ve had 3 tt divisions on two DC (one had to have it redone as it was bodged). First time I was unprepared for the aftermath (which was about a week of not great feeding) and felt like the worst parent in the world.

it might be worth getting it done, but the older he is the more traumatic it is and it does have a healing time associated.

Note: I’m not saying you shouldn’t have it done, you should just make that decision with your eyes open.

I know my son was alot younger but literally within seconds he was fine. No after effects. No risks. The mouth heals very quickly. Your child is very young and wont remember a thing. Best for him in the long run. Just my opinion obviously.
