Please help me with my newborn

Posting out of sheer desperation!

My little girl is 3 weeks old on Monday, she was born at 41 weeks, I had a vaginal birth but she did pick up an infection at birth which caused her breathing difficulties on her first night.

She cries none stop all day, she's so unsettled and will fall asleep for 10 minutes then I put her down and she's awake and screaming again. She gets hiccups a lot, she'll be hungry then refuse the bottle. She seems to constantly be irritated/in pain. She loves the car and the bath but I can't constantly drive with her or bathe her... she only likes to be upright on your shoulder and it's the only way there's a few minutes of relief from crying. It was 6 hours solid crying yesterday.

I've tried colief and shes formula fed on cow and gate, I burp her correctly and use MAM bottles which she gets on with.

I'm at a total loss, I'm exhausted and I just feel like this is the worst thing I've ever done and now I can't go back.

Thank you all for your help - I've had a couple of hours sleep and I feel more with it to tackle the issue.

I've switched milk to Kendamil - the first two feeds have seemed better and she's got on well with her new swaddle bag so far. I've tried infacol first and I'm going to call the GP tomorrow again to try and get some advice on potential reflux/silent reflux.

She does actually have a tongue tie, the midwife told me when she was born but said it's only tiny and shouldn't cause problems with feeding. When she was in neonatal after she was born another doctor mentioned it but said again it shouldn't be an issue with feeding. Should I get this checked out indepdently?

@GKE22 I've not tried the Gaviscon with the infacol for fear of this! Thank you

I can burp her for hours and nothing comes up - is this normal? Should she always bring wind up after every feed?

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your help with saving my sanity today ❤️

I had this with my baby, Kendamil relieved it temporarily then it got much worse - it was CMPA. Kendamil seems to expose CMPA because it's whole milk based (not basing this on anything scientific just my own experience and other CMPA mums) so you will soon know. It does sound more like reflux though. Either way it's not normal, speak to your GP but equally that means it's temporary- it will get better Flowers

I'm really sorry your going though this, I just wanted to say I'm with you and I get, even a baby that doesn't cry not stop is hard. I found the newborn stage hard, what makes is worse is your hormones, you're still recovering from the birth and ya just don't get a break. But it will get better, the crying will calm down my 8 month old is better now (I still find it reall hard being a single mum!) But I've noticed he's better. It's okay, they're not newborns forever and you won't feel like this forever. I hope that was a bit helpful.

Re the trying to burp for ages and nothing coming up, sounds exactly like my DD who is hard to burp. What works for her (mostly) is putting her down on her back for a few minutes on her play mat/in her cot/changing mat etc for about the amount of time to change a nappy, in fact I do sometimes go and change her at this point, before then picking her up and putting her up with her belly against my shoulder to try burping again. The laying flat seems to move those wind bubbles up a bit and makes it easier to burp. Hang in there, you’re at a really tough stage and I remember it well, it does get better.

Outing fingers around tummy button and turning gently in clockwork direct does help
