Nikcola I am sure you can do it but you will just have to work hard to get there. And you have all the skills to be a nurse they can't teach you at college - like how caring you are, patient etc. you have the whole of mumsnet behind you to help and support you!

nikcola · 24/11/2004 15:50

im doing access i realy have had enough im even taking it out on dd

Sending you a big hug cause I felt just the same earlier this year - The amount of work was completely overwelming and lots of fellow students dropped out. TBH I would have given up too if the course hadn't cost so much money. I don't mind proof reading your assignments if that would help.

nikcola · 24/11/2004 16:00

i really do want to drop out dd has just tol me she hates me and my house is a tip there isnt enough hours in the day and im sp tired

OP posts:
amynnixmum · 24/11/2004 16:04

poor you. The house isn't that important though and your dd didn't mean it - if it's any concilation my dd has just told me she hates me because I am a "stupid smelly mummy" because I don't have time to sit down with her straight after school to do homework that isn't due for 10 days!

nikcola · 24/11/2004 16:56

the house is now sort of clean but dd keeps egnoring me ffs shes only 3 and she is sulking with me

nikcola, ask yourself why were you accepted on the course if you are not capable of finishing it?
Someone who knows about the course and you thinks you are capable of completing it. Agree with cazzybabs you may have to work hard but you can do it!
I have been a single parent student and at times felt like giving up but am so glad I didn't. The house doesn't matter, dd does. Prioritise, make time for whats important and get my doing as little as is possible of other things.
Also, give yourself a break and get any help you can with dd.
Best wishes, Winnie

do you know how much ive admired you from afar nik? i think not. stick with it because believe me, youre doing so much more than i am in trying to better yourself..you have the motivation and i dont. youre stronger than you think! xx

Kittypickle · 25/11/2004 08:16

Nickola, I haven't followed what you're doing before, but Cazzybabs is right, the non-academic skills can't be taught - you could have someone who is flies through the course with top marks, but that still wouldn't make them a good nurse without all those other skills you need, empathy, patience, caring and understand for example. It's the worse time of year to be doing it, dark evenings, not much daylight, lots of colds etc. It is also really hard going back to studying after sometime, but it does get easier - I went back to do an A level followed by a degree after a few years out and I struggled with it and that was with no children and being a fairly academic person . You've done brilliantly to get this far, keep going, you WILL get there.

winnie1 · 25/11/2004 08:39

Nikcola, how are you feeling about it all today?

nailpolish · 25/11/2004 08:46

nikcola - hi!

im a nurse and i totally understand how you feel about the course - its a lot of work isnt it? exsctly what course are you doing?

you can cat me if you like - dont know if i could help but ill always try.

take care

nikcola · 25/11/2004 15:20

Im doing the access to health and social care course at college then going on to uni next year (september) to do the degree.
I feel like im living with my eyes shut iykwim im working on auto pilot at the mo, But what is really keeping me going is the fact tha dd loves nursery soo much and if i left the course she wouldnt be able to go any more (its funded be the collage) and i dont think i could go back to being at home 24/7 it drove me mad,
I love being busy, And i love having a life and a reason to get out of bed in the morning before collage i didnt i didnt even go out and it was really effecting dd,

I just keep looking towards graduating and being a nurse and everyone being proud of be that is all i want i want my mom and dad to be proud even though i dont like them i want to see the look on heur faces when they see that i can do something and not just be useless

i think nursing would be perfect for me because all i want to do is look after people (im mad i no !!)

sorry about the long rant xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hey Nickola stick with it.... if it helps withn the light at the end of the tunnel there is less 'homework' when you get to uni! One question to change the subject, why the degree? would you not be better off doing the diploma? finacially that is?
