Severe pain when trying to poop/pee one week after c-section

Hi everyone,
I had my second son via emergency c-section (placenta abruption) a week ago and recovery was going well and better than expected until 2/3 days ago. I’d already pooped twice (not as painful as I expected) and then I’ve suddenly started experiencing severe pain when trying to pass further bowel movements. The pain goes in streaks from my anus to up inside me and spreads across the area around my c-section incision. It makes it almost impossible to poop without crying out and standing up/sitting down alternately as I try to find a more comfortable position to relieve the pain and pass the poop.
The incision itself is fine, no sign of infection, and I’m also well in myself. This is my second c-section (my first son was born in March 2020) and I didn’t have this pain before. It also seems strange that the pain has developed in the last couple of days. I’m getting scared of pooing but really need to go. Could it be internal haemorrhoids? Or constipation? I’ve never had either. Or does it suggest a complication with how I’m recovering from the c-section? It’s also painful to wee, as if the pain develops as my bladder drains and I have to make a conscious effort to keep peeing at the end otherwise the discomfort means my body tries to stop the peeing before I’m done.

Contact your midwife or health visitor as this needs urgent attention. Please do not wait as your health and recovery are super important.
Good luck, all the best!

Ring the ward where you had your c section.

Are you still under midwife care and receiving home visits?

I'm 2 weeks post section and when I'm peeing I'm having the same Dr said to bring sample in tomorrow to check for infection xx

odey9621 · 21/06/2022 21:09

Also mine developed about 3 /4 days ago Dr didn't seem concerned though xx

I am having a similar experience. I was wondering if you found a resolution?

Squishybean · 18/08/2022 00:38

I had this post c section. Stool softener helped a tonne and the pain while peeing cleared uo after a few days

Sbena · 18/08/2022 08:26

Get some laxatives. I had to go into hospital for reasons on day 4 post partum and the nurse gave me a softener and a mover drug. Made things a LOT easier

Uselessuser · 18/08/2022 08:36

I had this, Google javelin arse. Sounds ridiculous but for me it was really bad for approx 2 weeks after c section. Happens on my period too.

I had this after c-section, the first 2-3 times I had a bowel movement I thought my organs we’re going to fall out my backside! When I looked it up I read it can just be your organs shifting back into place after them rummaging around and it did resolve itself after a few days thankfully 🤞🏼 I would call the hospital though if it continues x

Hi, I read this as I too suffered similar symptoms and wondered if you got anywhere with it? I have been to the doctors so many times and no resolution.

carlyhannah · 27/10/2023 22:20

Hi April, poor you! I still haven’t forgotten the awful stabby/slicey/shooty pain that went up inside me whenever I went for a poop or wee. But actually it got better almost as quickly as it came on. Within a week or two, the pain had completely gone. I mentioned it to my HV shortly after posting this message and she wasn’t concerned as apparently it’s a common complaint and there were no signs of infection anywhere. Hopefully things improve for you as they did for me. Having a c-section is tough and the recovery can be long and scary but often the discomfort and confusing symptoms are a normal part of your body mending itself. Having said that, if you’re at all worried, call your HV or midwife asap. Congratulations on your beautiful family ♥️
