Nappies leaking at the back

Good evening everyone

Baby is almost 4 weeks old, weight is about 3kg have tried different nappies (sainsburys, tesco, aldi and pampers) and all of them seems to be leaking urine at the back when baby is lying down. Doesn’t happen all the time but maybe once or twice a day. Nappies are size 1, from 2-5 kg.

Any tips on what I’m doing wrong?

Is it a boy? Point his penis straight down in the nappy. I had the same issue with my son, and this helped. The wee was going round the side and escaping up the back. Apart from that, different brands can be slightly different shapes. Also, if a vest is too tight, that can squish a nappy and make it gappy.

Hi @GeorgiaMcGraw thanks for the reply. Yes it’s a boy. Will try what you suggested

Yes to the penis thing and if that doesn't help then maybe go a size up in the nappes. That usually worked for us.

I would try a size 2 nappy. Size 1 aren't very absorbant at all, hopefully that helps

Lacedwithgrace · 19/06/2022 22:07

I agree with sizing up, he might need more absorbency even if the current ones fit well

giftswap2021 · 19/06/2022 22:11

Maybe try a bigger vest size too, as if the vest is too small there is no room for the nappy to expand with urine, so it causes leaks.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I have tried size 2 nappy (sainsburys) and the same happened. Will try a different brand and see if it helps

Hi op this has been happening me too the last few weeks especially if baby is lying down (he's 10 weeks today). Sizing up plus pointing Willy down helped. I also have to be sure to change the nappy very regularly. I bought Tesco rascal and friends (premium organic brand) and he's worn those the past two nights. No leaks and I only changed him once compared to the usual!2-3 times. They are larger sized and so absorbent.

K2012 · 21/06/2022 17:27

Thank you @QueenLagertha will try and buy those nappies from Tesco.

I used to use pampers and used the Tesco nappies and none of them worked for my little girl so I use rascal and Friends they are £5 a pack for a size two with 42 nappies in, the size 1/2 and £4 for 40 I think and for they are brilliant and I swear buy them! They hold so much wee and even when she poos she never leaks at all in these nappies and I just can't get enough of them! Hope this helpsBear

I'd definitely try the rascal and friends they are amazing😊 I swear by them some nappies just can't hold enough wee😭 I only change my little one once in the night if it's really full but she can go from 9 at night till 7 In the morning with out a change with them nappies!

SheWoreYellow · 22/06/2022 11:46

Aw. That’s not what you need in the night.

Are they too loose round the waist? Ooh ohh I know, are you not hoicking them right up at the back? Back should be much higher up than you think.

K2012 · 15/07/2022 11:36

I’ve tried all the above and it’s still happening. Any other suggestions? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you tried positioning the nappy higher at the back? I think it's better if it's about halfway up his back. When we had leaks it was usually a position or fitting error.

I use Asda nappies - they have a stretchy bit at the back that other brands don't (Tesco only do it for size 1&2) and I found them much better quality.

K2012 · 15/07/2022 18:46

Hi @Sbena thank you for the reply.

Yes I’ve tried positioning the nappy higher at the back and it still happens ☹️🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven’t tried Asda nappies will give them a go
