Silly question - UHT Milk?

Silly question I’m sure 🤣 We’re off to an event next weekend involving a 2 night hotel stay with a 17m old. Currently has a cup of cows milk on waking at about 6.30am (then will be fine to wait a wee while until hotel breakfast) and has a cup of cows milk in the evening after bathtime. Won’t do without either. There’s no fridge in the hotel room.

Are small cartons of UHT milk available in supermarkets etc? Is UHT milk ok to give for a couple of days? 🤔 Or am I missing a glaringly obvious solution? 🤣

We used to take a couple of cartons of UHT milk abroad with us in the suitcase for the first day/evening before we could get to a supermarket. No issues for us.

You could buy pre made toddler formula

dramalamma · 19/06/2022 09:53

Oh don't be bothering with expensive toddler formula - it's all marketing! Yes you can get small pint size cartons of uht - even if you had to get the bigger ones they last out the fridge anyhow so would last a couple of days. In our sainsburys they are down the aisle with the other long life milk like almond/oat milk.

Sorry meant to add just get one out with your child before you go - uht tastes very different from fresh - I personally can't stand it but he may love it as it's sweeter but worth Trying out first

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 19/06/2022 10:24

UHT tastes different.
I'm sure the hotel would supply a cup of milk twice a day - have you asked them?

TwoBlueFish · 19/06/2022 10:27

You can get cool boxes that plug in (to both the car and a normal plug) you could get one of those and take your normal milk.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/06/2022 10:29

We used to take fresh in a cool bag with ice packs. At a push, it will stay good for a day if you stand it in a sink of cold water.

Nobody should be forced to drink UHT milk let alone a small baby. Vile stuff, your baby will probably spit it out.

It's just that the pre made toddler formula can be kept at room temperature and it tastes better than uht!

@MrsOwainGlyndŵr I haven’t asked them yet, no 😊 that was my next port of call if it wasn’t just as easy as using UHT for a couple of days 😊 I just didn’t want to have to be bothering anyone for cups of milk early in the morning 😊

i actually have a dairy intolerance myself and haven’t had milk since my early teens - I had no idea UHT tasted different @PuppyMonkey 🙈🤣

Id ruled out the toddler formula cartons because I didn’t want something that tasted different so UHT might be out too 🤣
I think I’ll just phone the hotel and ask if they can store milk for me to save any hassle!

My mum used to order a bottle from the milkman especially for me when I was a kid. Fifty years later and I’ll still happily drink it. Can’t stand it in tea or coffee though.

I wouldn't worry too much about this.
A toddler doesn't need milk. Just offer him a glass of water or UHT and he'll either drink it or not. Or offer him a cereal bar in mornings to tide him over until hotel breakfast. Not a big deal. I'm not sure you can expect the hotel to bring a toddler a glass of milk at 6:30 each morning. I'm sure he can have some when it is breakfast time.
You're over thinking it.

@GettingEnoughMoonshine It’s certainly not the end of the world if he doesn’t get it, I’m well aware 😊 but if there’s a simple way to give him a cup of whole milk then I’d far rather that than sugary cereal bars tbh!
and just to clarify - I’m not expecting any hotel staff to hand deliver him a cup of milk at 6.30 each morning 🤣 I’d be asking them if they had the facility to store milk and I’d happily go and get it myself each morning and evening from reception!
