Do people cope with newborns in this heat?!

It is hotter than the devils arsehole in my house and me and DS (8 weeks) are both sweltering.

Feeding time is turning us both into sweaty, frustrated idiots and it's vile.

Baby wears a vest so they don’t stick to you.
You just wear knickers
Keep all blinds, curtains and windows closed during the day. Open windows at night. DD2 was born in a heat wave.

Ds2 was born in this 2 years ago, I’d feed him with just a Muslim laid across my arm/stomach and both of us just in underwear/nappy!

Northernlurker · 17/06/2022 19:15

@QforCucumber how did the Muslim feel about that?

To be helpful, can you create a through draft through the house? That helps a bit. Cool bath for both of you and remember to drink lots. Your body will soak it up in the heat with feeding baby too.

QforCucumber · 17/06/2022 19:20

@Northernlurker oops! It definitely said muslin when I wrote it, honest 🤦🏽‍♀️

I am not laying across your arm my friend 😂

Maybe if you pay me lol

You could try the frozen bottle of water in front of a fan thing. Or something like that.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 17/06/2022 19:26

Hot water bottle filled with cold water helps to cool the crib down enough to get them to sleep.

As few clothes as necessary, though I find a thin layer is often better than nothing at all because skin on skin gets uncomfortable.

jevoudrais · 17/06/2022 19:27

It's grim. DD was born July 2020. We now have air con units.

HJFTM · 17/06/2022 19:41

Last year when DD was ~8weeks in this heat I had her in just a nappy and when we fed, I laid a muslin across my arm so that we didn’t get sticky. Lots of extra breastfeeding was offered to help her stay hydrated.

I used a fan in the bedroom to circulate the air but you have to make sure it doesn’t blow directly on the baby or they’ll get too cold as they’re still not regulating their temperature yet :)

It’s trickier this year as she’s running everywhere, wanting cuddles and to climb on me lots so we’re extra sticky 😫

Best of luck!

Obviously never do what my utter fool of an exh did and try give ds a grape to suck on.
Trying to pat the back of a newborn with any sort of force is scarey and difficult...
Exh... Bet you wonder why?
Damp flannel wipe down whenever you an op...

QforCucumber · 17/06/2022 20:23

@Helpimfalling - I don’t even know how autocorrect makes that change! They’re both real words and I didn’t need a capital letter haha! 🤦🏽‍♀️

Sprat12 · 17/06/2022 20:36

I like the hot water bottle with cold water idea. I've currently got a muslin in the freezer ready to go in the Moses basket, as well as a fan on and double doors open for a breeze.

@Helpimfalling snort 🤣
