Formula fed baby and water

My 4 week old is formula fed and I’m just wondering if anyone knows at what temperature we should be offering them a little sterile water between feeds? NHS website says we can so in ‘extra hot’ weather but not sure what this means

Keep tabs on how many wet/heavy nappies your LO is having (anything less than 5 or 6 in 24 hours is probably cause for concern). Also look out for other signs of dehydration like sunken eyes and sunken fontanelle.

Unless they seem dehydrated I'd just give milk rather than water.

They shouldn't need extra water even in the heat unless they're constipated x

Give your HV a ring as she will give you specific advice.

Agree speak to your HV. I give DS a little water but only from about 4 months onwards. If you suspect dehydration you can add an extra 10ml or so of water to a feed (not every feed) if needed. I think at 4 weeks your best bet is just to offer plenty of milk. If you suspect dehydration seek medical advice though xxxx

At 4 weeks there’s really no need to give water except in exceptional circumstances where it’s advised by medical professionals. Just give milk more frequently, maybe offer slightly cooler formula.

Perpop · 17/06/2022 09:56

Nope, too young. Formula or breastmilk only!

HSKAT · 17/06/2022 09:59

No need for water.
Give more regular feeds and maybe slightly cooler than normal.
