How many months is 16 week old baby / How do u calculate how many months old ur baby is?

I have this running debate with friends and family on how everyone calculates their babies number of months they are. Today jaz ( my first baby ) is 16 weeks old, i assumed that meant she was 4 months old however my friend who has a baby born 3 days after mine ( 27th feb ) goes by the 27th of every month. i couldn't find much online if there was a right or wrong answer so i thot id pop on here for more opinions. Do you go by the same date of each month, or the weeks? ( apologies if that didn't make much sense i'm still suffering from severe baby brain!! )

Unless you are planning to add a 13th month to the year or celebrate her birthday early I'd switch to calendar months now.

I have this same query a girl I know was saying her baby is 6 months old say yesterday and she goes by the exact date each month. Technically by weeks this baby is older. She stated how she was worried about weaning early (but I was like your baby is over 6 months already then She bragged about how well he was sitting up at just under 6 months (well no he's over 6 months). It doesn't even out until they turn 1.

Does it really matter?? Say 16 weeks if you want to count in weeks. Almost 4 months if you want to count months? Weeks and months are both defined periods, it's not subjective!

Do you not know how the calendar works? There's not some kind of special one used for the age of babies

By the date. When your baby is 1 year/12 months/52 weeks old it will be 24th Feb (or whatever date she was born)

So how many weeks old is her six month old baby?

Just go by the date - born on 27th Sept the baby will be one month old on 27th Oct, two months old on 27th November etc.

There aren't exactly 4 weeks in every month so 16 weeks might not be exactly 4 months.

If your baby is born today on 16th June then they will be four months on 16th October and six months on 16th December. What's so complicated about that?

you count in months if you want to use months - and count in weeks if you want to use weeks

I don’t get this at all? The baby is exactly the same age if you count in weeks, months or hours!

if her baby was born on 15th Dec 2021 then she was 6 months old yesterday. If she was born on any other date throughout time then she was not 6 months old yesterday

What do you mean by weeks the baby is older? Depending on the time of year then six months date to date could be 26 weeks and two days, when usually six months is considered equivalent to 26 weeks (even though a year is 52 weeks and a day or two), is that what you mean?

If she’s going by the exact date (rather than weeks) surely she is right about when her baby was 6 months old!?

Yes, not getting it either. If the birthday was 15th December then the baby would be 26 weeks exactly on 15th June, so technically just under six months.

I decided not to mention leap years for fear of blowing the minds of the people who don't know how weeks and months work 😂

Erm, weeks and months are different things. Months have different numbers of days depending on the month. Hth

What happens when they get up to 48 weeks, is that 12 months, is that their birthday, or do we have a special 13th month?

I’m baffled why people think 4 weeks is the same as a month.

You'll stop counting in weeks soon anyway. Not sure why you're getting so many arsey responses here though.

I was counting ds in weeks firstly. When he was 12 weeks I was suing he was 3 months. Then I realised he still had 3 weeks to go. Honestly I think I was a bit woo-woo with the baby brain for a while then. I now understand that on the 24th he will be 9 MONTHS and the next 24th he'll go up again

To be fair to OP, this can cause a bit of confusion when you're told to wean at 6 months and you have people who are terrified to wean even a day before and counting down to that EXACT day but they've been counting in weeks and some people starting weaning at 17 weeks so then they get the fear that they might accidentally wean early or late and panic.

But yes as others have said...calendar months!

Maybe, though the person they are talking about is the one who is right, 24 weeks is only 5 and a half months!

How can 15 December to 15 Jume be less than 6 months?

I'm desparing now at the ignornace of basic stuff
