Which wipes, nappy bags and liners are the best/cheapest eco wise?

Hi

I'm now addicted to my Bumgenius nappies and love them!! But I don't see the point in using re-usable nappies if I'm not doing my bit by using eco friendly wipes etc!

I still want to use wipes (I know water and cotton wool is cheaper) and the bags to put the pooey liners and wipes in? I usually use Johnsons or Pampers wipes but I'm under the impression these are not bio-degradable? I've found some degradable bags in Boots, a bit more expensive but not too bad!

Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced liners, wipes and bags that are eco friendly? Also can you get flushable degradable liners? I don't mind purchasing off the internet.

Thanks

Willow

Always wondered - why "Bobsmum" ARE you Bob's mum?

I always think of Bob The Builder and "Bob's dad"

Flame

I am indeed mum to a Bob, although I still call him by his full name most of the time.

Pannacotta I shouldn't take credit for my system really. Half of it (the spray bottle bit) is nicked from a fellow advisor at my nappy project and the other half (the loo roll bit) is from a MNetter but I can't remeber who. I tried just wipes and spray bottle but found it far better using the loo roll first

Flameandfurter - just realised I haven't been out for ages . I use the same system though. Carry a loo roll in the change bag and a smaller spray bottle with some mixture decanted into it. If there is no loo in the change room I just use a dry wipe and wrap it inside the nappy then the whole lot goes into a small wet nappy bag. When I get home I deal with contents of bag as usual and the wet nappy bag goes in the nappy pail. um, in the past I have double bagged the wet bag though - although I can see the advantage to not doing so if you use public transport and want a seat or two to yourself

Coby - are you an advisor then?

Pannacotta · 15/01/2008 19:45

Coby cant quite beleive we are getting this detailed about nappy changing but have to say I had worked out the loo roll thing long ago, before that I was spending a fortune on wipes!

Pannacotta - it was probably you who gave me the idea in the first place then . Wipes are way too expensive, I sometimes wonder if I spent more on wipes than I did on disposables with DD1 . You're right - far too much detail (I am more of a rambling idiot than normal at the mo so apologies to all)

Octo - yes I am .

who for???

at home we have an ice cream tub with washable wipes in, over which is poured a cup of camomile tea. There is also a pile of dry ones. The damp ones usually run out after a day so they don't go rancid or nasty. Fresh tea everyday. When we go out, we have a small baby wipes travel case thing, i think designed for normal wipes, it was a freebie. I put a couple of my camomile wipes in here and a couple of dry ones loose in the changing bag. The dirty nappy, fleece liner, dirty wipes all go in a wet bag which goes in the wash. I also have a couple of disposable nappies, slim pack of normal wipes and nappy sacks for emergencies. disposable nothing means very cheap

we use an old water bottle to keep the wipes solution in. you know the ones with the sports caps?

we use a cup of chamomile tea, honey, aloe vera gel and a few drops of grapefruit seed extract which lasts a few days.
