K3H303: Activities that can be undertaken by children to raise awareness of their own bodies and health needs, according to their age, gender, needs, and abilities.

Can anyone help me brainstorm this? Can't seem to get started!

Kay, sorry I can't help you. Officially I am just about to start level 3..tomorrow actually.

What are you doing and how have you found it please?

Good luck with that Dingle! It's fine, honestly. Gets a bit tough in places but is ok if you have the support of a good tutor. Saying all that, I did Early Years Care and Education rather than this new one, so don't know too much about it.

Kay, do you need to give different activities for the different age ranges, or does it just have to be general?

For a health needs one, I remember smearing a group of children's hands in glittery vaseline and then encouraging to wash it off using soap and water. It obviously went everywhere, but it meant if they couldn't see the glitter and their hands weren't sticky any more then they were definately clean!

Other activities could be things like dancing or any other large physical stuff, so the children get to feel their hearts beating faster. You could also include things like stories at circle time...

Erm, not being much help am I? But it is late and I have been cramming info for my dissertation. If you still need help, I'll have a look tomorrow and get back to you.

You could try role play activities - setting up home corner as Doctors Surgery or Hospital for instance. Food choices at snack - variety of fruits and veg to choose and why we choose them. Brushing teeth and washing hands at appropriate times. Running and dancing - feeling our chests/heart beat. Obstacle course - talking about muscles and how we climb, jump, crawl, push and pull using limbs etc. Hope some of that may help
