Baby wearing in summer

looking for some advice on what to do with slings/carriers over summer with a newborn.

  1. how to stop overheating (me and baby!)
  2. what to do with uncovered bits of newborn skin as they can’t wear suntan lotion???

been for a walk this morning using a stretchy wrap so all of baby was covered except face, but it’s only 18 degrees and we’re both a bit sweaty!

Struggle with this too. It's 30 degrees here this weekend!
I just keep him in a babygro as I see it as a comfortable thin layer which covers all his skin and no sweaty seams etc. I know some people see them as pyjamas or just for bedtime but I think they are the most comfortable and I don't want baby uncomfortable for my vanity!
Then just pop a sunhat on for in the sling.

At home or in the shade its just nappy or a romper.

Heat isn't much you can do about unfortunately if you're on the move!! As for sunlight, you can wrap the baby in a giant muslin to keep the sunlight off their little arms and legs. It's a bit lighter than clothes - I'd say limit the duration of the babywearing when possible due to overheating

The stretchy wraps are so warm! We just bought a kahubaby sunshine sling. It's really light and think it'll be great for hotter weather

I used to avoid the hottest part of the day, I had baby just in a vest and even a couple of times last year just a nappy. I used the stretchy sling to cover up all of her skin (apart from her face), and put a sunhat on her or took an umbrella out on the walk with us! Or used a muslin to cover her arms and legs. I used to stick mainly to evening walks though x

Thanks all! Some good ideas here. Have a toddler too so it’s mainly in the mornings taking them to the park etc do have a buggy but don’t like just parking that up and then running after toddler! Luckily toddler naps after lunch so we’ll be indoors during the midday Sun anyway

@sunflowerandivy ooh I was just looking at that one to try via a hire but started to get overwhelmed by options and doubt my choice - I’ll go ahead!

@PoTayToes80 we tried it through the sling library first. We have been using a stretchy wrap but she's almost 5months old. We used an ergo omni with our first but that's really hot and bulky and the kahubaby sunshine wrap is just so comfy and the material is so light.

We used the ergo baby mesh carrier rather than a wrap, cooler.

Also, had no idea babies couldn't wear lotion 🧐 there must be some they can?! Was never in the direct sun anyway tbf, I burn and overheat easily so always stay in shade.
