Travelling to GOSH

Hi,
we have an appointment at Great Ormond Street, was supposed to be in June but moved to July because of the train strikes and they’re now saying it could go into July and I’m getting really stressed, we’re travelling from the midlands and previously I’ve got the train and it worked fine so this was the plan.
Has anyone got any advice on driving there? I hate driving far, I avoid motorways so have very little experience of this and I don’t live in a big city so the thought makes me feel sick. No idea what the parking situation is either, I know they don’t have any but I don’t want to get to a car park and it’s rammed and we’re driving around looking 😫

Have you thought about getting a train the night before and staying somewhere nearby like a Premier Inn?

Hi OP, my little boy is also under GOSH, and it's a pain when there's tube/train strikes

I'd recommend not driving in, you'll get all the additional ULEZ and congestion zone charges, the traffic is horrendous near the hospital and I don't think parking is very accessible either.

If driving is the only option perhaps find a hotel that offers parking and is on the Piccadilly Line. Then on the day you can just hop on the tube over to Russell Sq. it's the closest station to the hospital.

Kings Cross is also walking distance but quite a bit further away

Failing all that, there are lots of Premier Inn type tootles near Euston, which is just a short cab ride from the hospital

I always park at the Brunswick Centre NCP car park. It’s about 10 mins walk from the hospital and I’ve never had trouble getting a space. If you download the NCP app I think it’s £7.50 for the day. I did drive in last time there was a tube strike though (without realising it) and it took absolutely forever so would recommend not doing it on the day if there is a strike - though a rail strike shouldn’t have such an impact on traffic in central London. They department did play it by ear with appointment times that day and just saw people whenever they arrived really so if it’s not anything time sensitive I’m sure they’ll be flexible where they can.

Thank you all.
ive had a look at the hotels and I’m going to struggle to afford but I’m wondering if it might just not be the only option, the train for the new date has already cost loads more. Not going to lie I’m fuming! It’s just extra stress that you don’t need isn’t it 😞 thanks for the advice, I’ll have another look at hotels and see what I can find.

Have you tried Air Bnb?

We drove to Stratford and parked at Westfield then tube but obviously no good If tube strike.

Feel for you OP. The appointment is stressful enough without the travel

SausageAndCash · 10/06/2022 20:39

Dreadful impact of the strikes - very sorry you are dealing with this OP.

Is there a National Express (or other) coach service? They are very good these days. Comfy, toilet, wifi...

Groupon and wowcher can be good for a random midweek hotel, they sometimes have a “secret” hotel but if you paste the blurb into Google you can often find which hotel it is

Does DC have a blue badge? It is possible to park outside GOSH with a blue badge; at least if you get there early. Admittedly not likely, if you are driving from the Midlands! The main road that runs from Euston and St Pancras is iirc called Euston Rd. There is a Premier Inn, on the same side as GOSH (which lies in the area behind it). It’s about a 10 minute walk from the Premier Inn to GOSH. Afaik, the hotel does not have its own car park; and parking in Central London is very expensive! GOSH does have parents’ accommodation, but that is all I know about it.
