GP didn't update red book with vaccinations given

Will this be a problem?

1 year vaccinations done - all good and now we've realised they didn't fill it out in the Red Book.

Has this happened to anyone before?
Is the red book just a 'nice to have' or will it cause an issue?

FTM and not from the UK so I don't have a clue.

You will be absolutely fine. It'll be on her medical records and that's what matters.
I always forget my red books.

They have stopped filling it in at our practice. They stopped for covid and didn't bother restarting it - think they realised it was unnecessary.

Yes, many yrs ago, when we moved house and DS1 moved school the secretary at the new school threatened not to let him take his place because one of his vaccinations hadn't been noted in the red book about 8 years previously. Took a lot of effort to prove it had been done as we were mid transfer to a new GP surgery and neither end could access the medical records 🤷🏻‍♀️ all very odd and unnecessarily made in to a massive thing.

you can add them in yourself for your own peace of mind

the dr will have a record of them

Yes my daughters is blank as it was in April 2020 and touching the book would have been too much of a covid risk apparently. She’s now starting nursery and they want to see immunisation records which of course I don’t have. I’m hoping it won’t be a problem (I don’t see how it can be as as far as I know they can’t refuse a place based on not having been vaccinated?!)

I was told that the red books are being phased out, last time I presented my DD's to be updated. Like everything, it's all going fully digital now apparently.

Well, when DS got mumps (mumps!!) just before Covid, I had a panic because I could only see 1 MMR jab in his red book. GP swears he's had both. I have to say, I think we messed up and he just had one and the red book is right. But who knows??!

Write it in yourself - in messy doctors handwriting - all sorted Wink

december2020 · 10/06/2022 10:15

I don't know any of the batch names or numbers to write it in myself - and with my luck the random numbers I'd pick are probably some recalled batch Grin

Oh crap I was hoping it was going to be a non issue but seems like it could bite me down the line. Would it be worth asking the GP to fill them in retrospectively or to have a print out for proof? Or are they going to laugh me out the door. Blush

Ask the GP for a print out of the vaccinations they have on record for your child as you will possibly need it in future. No one is looking at batch numbers unless there is an issue further down the line. Just email your surgery or phone them and ask. Some schools will ask to see it. I don't recall having to do that for my sons but they might. If you get it now it will be done and ready for if you need it.
