Rainbows explained!

Hello! My 5 (nearly 6) year old starts Rainbows tomorrow. I am going with her to meet the leaders for the first session. Can I ask what to expect from Rainbows and what it's all about? Heard great things so got her name down but not entirely sure what it involves! Can someone explain Promises to me and the general Rainbows ethos, what activities they do etc? Also, I have some second hand uniform - assuming that's ok as they've mentioned buying uniform when they make their promise? Thanks in advance!

I have a scientifically minded 13 year old and was coming on to talk about the diffraction of white light….

My DD joined in January and the girls there have been lovely with her. There's some from her school in different years so I live that she's branching out her friendships.
Also girls from different schools.

Each week they do a few activities, drawing, games, perhaps a walk in the woods. Last session they brought toys and snacks for a teddy bears picnic.

They do the promise once a term I think, my DD only took it in march I think.
There hasn't been much talk of badges
I bought her top 2nd hand. The girls don't seem to care too much what's worn. Just make sure she's comfy as no doubt she'll be running around!

Sounds so lovely, thanks for the comfy clothes tip! Like the idea of different ages coming together. Thanks for the website link - I'll have another look at that. Just seems to be different experiences from different areas so helpful to hear of your children's experiences 😊
