Chicken pox timings

DS is 4 and has got chicken pox. Had them for 3 days now, he's been fine in himself, not much itching but a little more today. A couple are scabbed, a lot with blisters and a few just coming through. We have an event planned on Saturday - always bad timing 😂 - what are the chances of us being fully scabbed? Or should I just begin postponing?

He might be ok but even if they have scabbed over he will still have all the spots and not look great. Depends what you have planned but might be better to postpone just in case.

Barrawarra · 06/06/2022 14:52

You might be ok, I’m sure with both my girls it was 7 days.

Pootles34 · 06/06/2022 14:55

We were done in 5 days - I added a couple just to be sure! I imagine you'll probably be fine with 8 days. Fingers crossed for you.

I think he should be fine by Saturday. Mine was done with them in about a week.

Has everyone else in your household had CP?

Emilyplays84 · 06/06/2022 16:45

Sounds hopeful! Fingers crossed we'll be ok. Younger sibling hadn't had them yet but we're hosting some NCT friends of my eldest so not really an issue if my you get gets them, they can just stay inside with their dad.

Incubation period is typically 14-16 days so your youngest is unlikely to be showing any signs of it by Saturday.

prescribingmum · 06/06/2022 16:51

Very likely you'll be fine. Both mine were fully scabbed, well and back at school within 6 days of first spot. It took second child 2 weeks to show spots after catching from first, other parents experienced exact same timeline between siblings so odds are in your favour although not guaranteed

NumberCurtains · 06/06/2022 16:52

Should be fully scabbed by Saturday I reckon.

Have you tried an oat bath? I don't know if it was a coincidence but my dad's chicken pox seemed to blister then scab straight away once we started oat baths - we went from first spot to completely scabbed over in 5 days.

NumberCurtains · 06/06/2022 16:53

I meant Dd's, not dad's, sorry!

Emilyplays84 · 06/06/2022 18:11

We've done a bath with bicarb today but will try oat baths too. Should I be putting anything on the ones that have broken and look a little sore? Savlon maybe?

OP posts:
prescribingmum · 06/06/2022 19:40

Unless they actually are sore, I wouldn't worry and just leave them. They look much worse than they are, both mine were not bothered by them at all once the itchiness subsided.

Also would recommend oat baths (just use oats, don't spend a fortune on the Aveeno stuff) and added bicarb to that

We're 3 weeks into chicken pox. Bad case, scabbed 10 days after start, but still looks hideous 3 weeks on. School photos tomorrow...
