Bronchiolitis

Hey
DD is seven months old and is hopefully coming to the end of bronchiolitis still a wheeze and cough but nothing like it was.
BUT she still won’t feed like she was doing? She’s having just over half what she had before she was ill and this has been for the last week and a half. She’s definitely lost weight although she will still eat food mainly fruit and drink water. She is still having wet nappies, not as wet at before and in the morning they are quite yellow.

is this all normal? And how long does it usually last?

She sounds dehydrated with the yellow wee.
Her appetite will pick up, just keep offering tasty things.

Thanks KangarooKenny. My worry is she’s a little dehydrated with the colour of her wee. I just don’t know what I can do to get more milk or water in there. She’s drinking over 200 mls of water a day.. but she just won’t feed like before?! Trying little an often trying different positions to feed in and she either refuses or has a little bit

Oh I should also add that she’s teething too.. Just to make matters worse and generally doesn’t have as much milk when she’s teething

Their taste buds seem to get knocked off for a while after a virus, and so their appetite is reduced.
just keep offering it frequently, but don’t let it stress you or her. You’ll get there !

Will she eat ‘wet’ foods like baby rice or cereal made with milk ? That way she is ‘eating’ fluid .

Furrbabymama87 · 06/06/2022 07:33

One of mine had it at a week old and was hospitalised and tube fed. Afterwards I was told to just feed little and often to stop her putting strain on her breathing. I can't remember how long it took exactly to get back to normal, but she did.

Ardmano · 06/06/2022 07:34

Is she congested? Not tried it myself but a saline spray might help her breathe better?

Dotty08 · 06/06/2022 08:11

Thanks so much everyone! Really good suggestions and reassuring.
She loves baby porridge so I’m giving her that every morning.
She was congested so I used the saline spray it was fab really made the snot sucker easier to use and dried the snot up. She’s not been congested for about a week now but still no appetite for milk.
Really don’t want to end up in hospital (I know no one does) but we’ve spent months in and out as she’s had open heart surgery. Really amazed she got through the scary coughing and wheezing part without needing to go in.
I’ll just keep trying, thank you xx

When my little one had bronchiolitis he was hospitalised and when he was discharged we were told he had to be back up to 80% of his normal feeds within 48 hours or he would be readmitted. However, he was only on milk, no solids. I’d say keep an eye out for signs of dehydration and trust your instincts if you feel something still isn’t right. Best of luck x
