Hi we are going to Spain very soon and I was all excited for our boys first holiday abroad. Then today it was was nice around 21 degrees. I had applied suncream multiple times and brought him in the house for meals ect. He had a hat on and long trousers. Was in a uv tent and we had a large umbrella up in the garden. He was in direct sunlight for maybe 20/30 mins through out the day. Crawling on grass playing with me//his dad. As I was putting him to bed I thought his legs looked a little red(maybe he was just hot🤷🏻‍♀️)Just checked them now and they are not. It's got me panicking about the holiday.
i have a uv suit and enough suncream for a small army. Taking the tent and have an extra wide shade cover for the pram.
how long is reasonable in direct sun?any other tips?

Hi there, if it was high summer in a hot country (I’m from a hot country) I’d say only go out into direct sun in the morning or late afternoon and then don’t linger.

They should be well set up for kids though, shouldn’t they? If it’s super hot (say 27 degrees plus) just try and stay shaded or as I said, go into the sun early morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler.

There’s no reason to be super stressed about it though. You sound like you’re being very thoughtful and anticipating it so I’m sure it will be fine.

I tend to use a once a day suncream of factor 50 which has a uv rating of 5 stars and then use a factor 50 'top up' spray again with a uv rating of 5, which I apply multiple times a day. Then as you say a hat, uv suit and tent and keep in the shade as much as possible. Are you sure the red legs weren't from crawling on the grass? Seems like you did everything ☺️

Definitely factor 50 with a 5 star rating. Swim top ( rash vest with short sleeves) or sun suit with factor 50 uv. Remember sun can go through fabrics and just enjoy, he'll love it.

@pjani thank you for your input. It's good to have experience from someone who has lived in a hot country as obv people in hot countries have babies😂 the forecast is for around 26/30 atm. The hotel I'm going to has a baby club from 11 until 12 so will take him to that(not leaving him at it because I'm a paranoid ftm🙈😂) then lunch, nap and by that time it would be around 3 so the sun shouldnt be as fierce....maybe....and he can go in the pool. I've also got a boat with a canopy for in the pool.
@Daisy95 you know you could be right...he never normally crawls on the grass he just sits there. He's only recently learned to crawl and was a bit funny about putting his hands on the grass until today so it could be that!

@flatpacklovee yip have the factor 50 with the 5 star rating and uv suits. In fact I packed 5 of the things🙈 short sleeves, long sleeves, all in one, shorts and T-shirt type as I couldn't decide which would be best😂honestly I'm carting 70kg of luggage for 3 people🙈
