House temperature

I know the recommended room temperature for a baby is 16-20degrees but does anyone else feel like this is chilly? It must be comfortable for them because my LG doesn’t wake up either hot nor cold but I find I have to wrap myself up in my duvet in bed to get warm.

anyone else??

Bedroom temp? If anything it's a bit warm for us

FTM2022x · 01/06/2022 16:20

Yep! Our house is always 20-22 without any heating and with windows open/fan on so we’re used to the heat I think

I agree with you OP. If feels so cold to me but doesn't seem to bother DD. Actually her room once went down to 12 degrees in winter (three external walls) I just happened to look at the monitor in the middle of the night and was horrified! But she wasn't bothered at all. Sine then I keep the thermostat in her room so at least it doesn't drop below 16.

22 and I've got hot water bottle and thermal socks

This has reminded me of when the midwife came round and told me it was cold in our lounge. DS was just a few weeks old and he wasn't cold to touch and was happily gurgling away. The thermo said it was 18 degrees and to me it felt just right but she said it was my hormones making me hot. The heating just hadn't come on at the time she came round. When it was on it was set for 20 degrees, the same as now. She made me feel guilty and inadequate.

Reminds me of when I was in the postnatal ward... it was absolutely baking, unbearably warm, it reminded me of living in Spain during a heatwave when there's just no way of cooling down! The midwives told me to dress baby in a vest and long-sleeved body suit but I had her naked apart from her nappy and she seemed fine. Then one of the other women rebelled and opened a window and a midwife came and suggested we close it "for the sake of the babies" but we all said no, we wanted it open so she gave in and let us keep it open.. it was bliss! 😅

Our house is currently around the 17-18 mark, we're huddled in slippers and jumpers and blankets while our now toddler refuses to keep any clothes on apart from her vest and knickers!

I have my heating set to 19c. Its on for an hour in the morning and 3 to 6 in the afternoon but I do over ride it we are cold. My youngest is 3 yrs now. I always feel cold when I’m sleep deprived. Perhaps that’s effecting some of you with younger children (not that mine can be relied on to sleep).

RefuseTheLies · 16/11/2022 21:23

I find 20 ok, but 16 too cold. I think my wee one prefers it slightly warmer too (but tbh, she can’t talk yet so who really knows 😁)

DementedPanda · 16/11/2022 22:03

When mine were babies I had thermo set to 18.

Parkopedia · 16/11/2022 22:03

Out house sits around 17/18 and feels chilly to me. Dd's room has three external walls (extension) and dropped to 12 one night last winter!! She wasn't bothered at all but we put the thermostat in her room after that to keep it at 16 minimum

Hugasauras · 16/11/2022 22:10

17 in bedroom is ideal for me. 20 is too hot! That's windows open and feet sticking out of duvet temperature. But we are north of Scotland Grin
