How to stop a 10 month old from over filling his mouth!

Hi everyone. My LO is just coming up to 10 months and has been spoon fed his meals since weaning at 5 months. He has melty sticks, rusks etc. as finger food as well as 3 meals a day and 3 bottles.

He has a very good appetite and eats anything (within reason) I put in front of him. His pincer grasp is good and generally have no problems. He has a formula bottle about 8pm and has slept through the night for months. I know I'm very lucky.

I try and make his food out of what the rest of our family are having and have tried giving him some 'real' finger food like fruit, toast and veggies but he shoves everything in his mouth as fast as he can and starts coughing. He is never left unattended whilst eating so there is always someone there. I have tried giving them to him 1 by 1 but he still does the same. Ive tried cutting into smaller pieces, also mashing and he just seems to over fill. Ive tried giving him a flat spoons which he can use to some extent but soon gets bored.

Any tips for a mumma with an always hungry baby?

Also when do you know your baby is full? Because mine keeps eating, but is always crawling and moving and only has one nap during the day. He's actually a nice size.

Sorry for the essay and thanks in advance x

I'm in exactly the same boat. I think the answer is to regulate how much food they have access to at once. Give him time to swallow before he gets more.

I just keep feeding mine for 30 min and then stop. He would absolutely eat more if offered, but he's gaining weight at a very nice pace so no need for more. As he gets better at eating, he's polishing off his (BIG) meal in about 15-20 min; I look out for how quickly he's eating towards the end. If he's slowed down and eaten a reasonable amount, the meal is over. If he's still inhaling the bites, he obviously needs more.

Hi OP there are lots of resources on Solidstarts.com and I'm sure they cover this. Basically I think it's normal and hopefully a phase they'll grow out of. I also struggle to tell when DD is full, but kind of judge it as when she's playing with her food more than actually putting it in her mouth (even if she's putting a bit in her mouth)
