10mo suddenly SCREAMING in his bed

So usually he's an okay sleeper - we've had a while host of problems but finally he's settling to sleep in around 10-15min. We do not co-sleep and I'm not about to start.

Well.

Starting yesterday at the lunch nap, during the night and trying to settle for this morning's nap he has SCREAMED while in his cot. If I hadn't been in the room I would have thought someone had broken in and was brutally attacking him. He sounds like he's in agony. He has been chewing his fists for the last week or so, but no other teething signs - he has all his incisors, so next would be 1st molars and it's a bit early for those, but I haven't ruled it out.

He's impossible to console. Usually he settles pretty quick with a hand on his tummy, but he just won't stop screaming. I pick him up and he instantly calms down so we cuddle for a few minutes until he's not sobbing anymore. Back into the cot, aaaand he starts screaming again. Rinse and repeat for indefinite time. Eventually he passes out from exhaustion.

WTF??? Has anyone else experienced this? He started his 8 month sleep regression at 8 months. Do you think it's teething, or separation anxiety?

Hi OP, sometimes babies get restless and change behaviour when go through a developmental stage. My DS started screaming in his sleep for couple weeks before he started crawling

Could be night terrors?
DS2 had them from around 9 months to age 10.
He would start screaming at roughly the same times each night. Inconsolable and seemingly terrified but would stop quite suddenly and he never remembered it next day.

One of the few things that helped was to gently wake him just before the time he was due to " go off".

@TheRoadToRuin I hadn't actually thought of that. I am so pleased that this has stopped for now for my lo.

Is he rubbing his ears by any chance or do they look a bit red? The only time one of my daughters screamed like this was when they had an ear infection.

Erm he's 10 months old. He needs comfort and his mum. That's why he's screaming and that's why he stops when you pick him up. Not rocket science! I'm sorry your baby is inconveniencing you!
