Travelling abroad with a picky eater

Going away on Monday for an European city break, coming back on Friday. My 4.5 yo is terribly picky, she goes through phases of eating quite well and eating almost nothing. She's been a bit sick this week too so at the moment all she eats is fish, any kind of fish, and home made chips. Oaty bars, some fruits and that's it.

I worry what is she going to eat on holidays. She used to love pizza and that would be our go to food when we went out, she's gone off it now.

Any advice would be very much appreciated x

Well, you may find that she eats much better on holiday due to the novelty, or you might find that she survives purely on chips, which are luckily easy to find in most places. I wouldn't waste energy worrying about it if I were you, it'll just ruin your holiday.

Most restaurants will do chips and probably some fish.

Stock up on the oaty bars and fruit to take with you or buy there and I'm sure she will manage ok. You're there less than a week. Even if she doesn't eat a lot it will be ok for just a short trip.

When we went to Cyprus for a week DD pretty much ate hummus and pitta bread for the whole stay. The only variation was when a restaurant boiled a couple of eggs, specifically for her, so she would eat something different for one meal. She was fine.

I've taken food in a suitcase for dd before.

Yes, I try not to worry too much, but I am so used to feeling frustrated with her eating. Just need to relax and enjoy being away.

She did love hummus for a couple of months, but she hates it now 😔. I guess oaty bars and chips will do for less than a week. The frustrating thing is she does have a very good appetite so if she is served something she likes she'll eat loads. It's just not many things she likes..arrgg

Ah..and she loves eggs, but we suspect she has developed an allergy/intolerance recently so we are keeping her off eggs for a while 😞

When I was a child, my sister AND my mother were both incredibly picky eaters. My dad used to say “when The Beatles went to India, Ringo brought a suitcase full of tins of beans; why can’t we?” So we did.

going anywhere with my mother is still a nightmare but lots of places abroad will do a children’s menu with fish fingers on it, especially in British-populated parts of Spain/Greece etc.

Bring the oaty bars, get fruit when you’re there
any restaurant will have chips, bread, plain pasta
don’t stress , it’s a week… offer lots smog healthy snacks (as healthy as she will have them)
