Has anyone treated mastitis without antibioticd?

This morning when I woke up and nursed my 9 month old I noticed my right breast was a bit sore. I was also having chills and my body ached. There is a red patch on the breast, but there are no lumps and the breast is soft to touch. It doesn't hurt that much. I drank lemsip this morning and went to work. I felt a bit better throughout the day, but got the GP appointment anyway. The GP confirmed it's mastitis and prescribed antibiotics.
Now I'm thinking if it's really necessary to take them? I feel like I have a mild form of mastitis.. could it suddenly become much worse if I don't take antibiotics?
I never had any problems breastfeeding so the mastitis was a big surprise. My baby has had a few infections recently from nursery, I'm wondering if he passed them to me when feeding.
Shall I wait till tomorrow morning?
Please share your experiences.

Mastitis can cause redness, temps and chills without any infection. The symptoms are an immune response to the mastitis but it can then become infectious and when it does antibiotics are needed and quickly. If you are resolving then you can hold off and do self care but any escalation and take them quickly as other outcomes include ivf antibiotics and abscesses

@surreymum89 I'm feeling fine! I really don't want to jinx it, but this morning had no body aches, no temp. The breast is soft and even the redness is coming off, it's almost no sore at all. So I think I'll pass on antibiotics for now, but will start them if I I don't fully recover by Monday.
Are you feeling better this morning after your antibiotics?

I was alone with newborn, two older dc and ex had decided that he couldn't cope and had walked out. I woke up in the night with mastitis.
Ran a very hot and deep bath and massaged the breast until absolutely nothing was left. I kept topping up the water and kept the offending breast submerged and massaged. After about an hour felt more comfortable and went back to bed. In the morning no signs of mastitis at all. It was so much better than previous times taking antibiotics.

Well done you. I would be reluctant to take antibiotics unnecessarily too as they can affect your baby's micro biome which is risky at such a young age.

I had what you had and was able to get rid of it before it got worse by massaging the breast non stop, putting warm compresses on and feeding from that breast every time until it went away. Obviously much harder for you if you're at work! Maybe call in sick if that's possible if it starts to get worse so you can really look after yourself.

Had terrible mastitis in both breasts - red rock hard, awful fever and screaming in pain. Cured with green cabbage leaves in the bra. I left them in all night too! The midwife came to see me and recommended it straight away.

Yeah 20 years ago my midwife said the same. In the last two years I've had sepsis twice running a temperature, red lines on breast. Cue strong antibiotics. Fast tracked for breast cancer testing. I have to wear a bra 24 hours a day. My ducts are scarred, my consultant said the midwife made the wrong decision with the cabbage leaves. I have pain in this breast often and I'm post menopause.

I should have ignored her my milk dried up in that breast to boot
