What to wear to bed

My LG is 1 wk old and only 6lb 3 so too small for a sleep bag/grobag.
i’m quite anxious so the thought of a blanket stresses me out because of SIDS etc.
Our room is around 20-24degrees at night, is a long sleeve sleepsuit & short vest ok for her to sleep in? I will be using the sleepbags when she is big enough!

At that temp I would stick with just the vest!

DysmalRadius · 27/05/2022 18:56

Does she actually get cold? I know they make it sound like a baby that's one degree of ideal temp will either burst into flames or be consumed by ice, but you honestly can just feel if they're too hot or cold usually!

FTM2022x · 27/05/2022 19:27

She feels lovely and warm (not hot) during the night but honestly some of the posts i’ve read I feel like I’m underdressing her by about 2 layers!

Thankyou! I did do a sleepsuit with no vest for a few nights and she seemed ok with that too. I just worry as everything online seems to be saying to add another 2 layers!

I'd just do a sleepsuit or something. If she's cold and it bothers her she'll wake up, and it's better to be a bit on cool side than too warm anyway.

FTM2022x · 27/05/2022 19:33

That’s true. Do you know what signs to look out for if she’s too cold? Would it just be fussing/crying? I can’t imagine there are health risks to being too cold at 20odd degrees anyway surely

I get really cold feet at night so I always thought a footed sleep suit would be nicer than a vest for DS. Because that's how your brain works when you're a new mum, right? Blush

Agree with pp, too cool is better than too warm and he'll let you know if he's not comfy.

RewildingAmbridge · 27/05/2022 19:36

DS had a grosnug when he was a newborn, but it was December so couldn't get away with just a sleep suit! If she's comfortable go with what you've been doing. I found a lot of the clothing charts no help at all

squirrelnutkins1 · 27/05/2022 19:45

Have you got any large muslins? You could pop one of those over baby as a bit of a blanket with a vest.

Furrbabymama87 · 27/05/2022 19:48

In warm weather mine had a thin swaddle blanket on ( not tight) and then another thin blanket tucked over and under the mattress if it was chillier. Either a babygro with no vest or a romper suit with short sleeves and legs.

hugoagogo · 27/05/2022 19:52

24 C is a bit hot for sleeping.
I would put her in a long sleeved sleepsuit and a cotton blanket tucked in well at the foot end.

FTM2022x · 27/05/2022 19:52

I may try just a footed babygrow tonight and see how she goes… the worries are never ending but I’m sure not much harm can come from her being a little chilly 🤔

We have the fan on & windows open all day too! It’s usually around 22ish by the time we head to bed

When it was warm I used to put mine in a vest and then swaddle in a large muslin blanket

Yes, babies will fuss and cry if cold. She will let you know she's uncomfortable.
