Sunscreen for baby

I’m wondering if I could get some advice. Without judgement. My baby is 8 weeks old & is extremely pale.

Of course we keep him in the shade at all times, but sometimes I don’t think it’s enough.

Today we were under a gazebo, however i could still see that I could shade him by putting my hand over him. I took him inside straight away.

The other week, we were under a parasol the entire time & when I got home he was a bit pink. It lasted about 6 hours where it then went. My friends baby (same age) was perfectly fine, she even had her baby out the shade for a bit.. but I know due to my sons complexion that there’s no way he could do it.

I know sunscreen isn’t recommended before 6 months, however I wondered if anyone had any recommendations of sunscreen they used for their babies? Just to ease my worries while in the shade.

If he's in the shade, he can't burn? I don't understand your post.

Yeah the sun can still get you in the shade. I wouldn't put sunscreen on your baby, just cover him with another umbrella while under the shade and an extra sun hat. If you think he is getting too much sun bring him inside, and keep him cool enough.

@Lassielou Thanks for asking. Unfortunately not all gazebos/parasols are completely protective of all the UV rays. So you may think you’re in the shade, but UV rays can still get in. Also, if the gazebo/parasol is a lighter colour it can pass sunlight through it still.
natural shade such as houses etc of course, but putting a piece of material between the sun and humans might not always protect it.
hope this clarifies.

Get UV clothes for him

Get him some of the uv protection clothing and hats

This seems a bit OTT to me. My baby is very fair and we live in a hot country, but I wouldn't consider doing more than keeping her in the shade. But each to their own.

Either UV protected clothing (think swim vests), or a UV umbrella. Don't put suncream on such a young baby

I had a summer born heatwave baby. I used childrens farms when i felt he needed it. Obv kept him in the shade but at times it's was inevitable that he was in the sun. It made me feel better that he had
some protection but I know that it's not recommended on young babies. Do your research and balance the risk is what I would say.

We went on holidays to Mexico when my baby was 3 months old, he has pale irish skin like his mum and dad. It was tough but I was just super vigilant about keeping him in the shade at all times and a really good sun hat is your friend! If you can still cast a shadow from the sun by putting your hand over his face then he isn't properly shaded. My son is almost 8 months old now so technically old enough for baby sunscreen but I've only used it once while we were using the swimming pool on holidays last month, I still favour keeping him in the shade as much as possible. We have a little UV tent for beach/parks, sunshades for car windows and a good sunshade on his buggy too.

Mustela is very mild. I believe we used it from 3 months but our ds didn't have sensitive skin although it's very pale.

It's important your baby gets some sun - vitamin D
