Lip tie?

Is this a lip tie? I've been googling and it looks like it may be but I've had no experience of it before.

Baby is 6 months old. If so, what do I need to do?

Thank you in advance..

Definitely a lip tie. They don't cut lip ties in the UK though generally as they aren't seen to be an issue for feeding or speech.

However, if there's a lip tie there's almost certainly a tongue tie as well. I was told by the midwife that cut DS2's tongue tie that she'd never seen a lip tie without a tongue tie being present. Is baby having (or have they ever had) any issues with feeding/wind etc?

Nothing. Most will split naturally after they are bumped from a little fall. If not they are only cut around age 12 if they are causing a gap between the teeth. DS saw a max fax consultant for his. It split at 18 months. Lots of blood but didn't hurt. DS didn't have a tongue tie.

DS has a lip tie and nothing will be done about it. No tongue tie.

Hmm interesting thank you. I'll check her for a tongue tie tomorrow...I've been looking at tongue tie pictures and I have one! I'm 37 and I knew it was there but thought it was normal, according to the images on here tonguetieal.com/do-tongue-ties-affect-adults-what-symptoms-do-they-have/ mine is a grade 3 ,I know they are genetic so I'll definitely be investing.

That is because it is normal OP

Your baby has a high frenal attachment, but nothing needs to be done. If they've had no problems with feeding in the last 6 months then I wouldn't worry about a tongue tie, again frenums are normal. A 'lip tie' does not indicate they will have a tongue tie

My 14 month old has a lip tie, which was only confirmed to me the other month when I took him to the dentist for the first time. I'd suspected it because his top front teeth have quite a large gap in between them. He doesn't have tongue tie and has never had any feeding issues and seems to be babbling fine so I'm not going to worry about it at this stage. I don't think you need to worry unless it's causing some kind of problem for your little one.

Thank you all for your replies. I've tried to look at her tongue (admittedly I haven't looked hard), it looks the same as mine and she's certainly having no issues feeding. Will just keep an eye on her lip tie.
