HELP!! I am so stressed I didn't know were to turn!! I'm sick of the pressure of potty training my son... he's been a lttle behind on everything, he didn't walk until he was 26 months and his talking has been slow he still doosn't put sentences together, now I am trying to potty train! I had last week off work and we spent it together, he will sit on the potty and has wee wee'd on it but more wee on the floor and sofa! I really don't think he fully understands whats happening and I feel I am pressurising him, but he was 3 last Sept and don't want to leave it too late!! anyone got any helpful advice!!!??? (better than that from a pressuring mother in law!!)

Don't worry about leaving it too late - try not to stress - he will do it when he's ready. I thought I would never get there with DS, who has similar speech problems to your boy, but he cracked it when he was 3.5.

Btw - is he getting any help with the speech problems?

Thank you! its so nice to hear this, all I seem to get is that he's too old for nappies and should be trained!! I am just a born worrier and and haved cried my eyes out twice this week already!!
Yes he has attended a speach therapy class for 10 weeks which I think helped a bit but there was only one other child on the course, I have put him down for another this year which will hopfully help, though when we were off together last week he wouldn't stop talking!! (not that everything made sense!!) so at least something good has come from it!

DS never really showed much interest in the potty - but one day he got very keen on copying what he saw me do on the loo - so for a few weeks he would sit on the loo, flush it and wash hands, but not produce anything, and then after a while he was doing it properly on the loo.

glad to hear that your boy is in the system and his speech is improving.

I'm so glad I logged on here tonight, sat here drinking my glass of red wine I was getting a little down!! Thought DS would rather use toilet than potty but he seems scared of it? Tried to get his Dad to show him but he seems to be trying to avoid being in the house while I have been training!! I feel much better reading comments from mothers who have been through the same, must try and stick up to Mother in Law!!! plus DS is getting upset with it and he is normally a really happy child

Yes I have gone the "chocolate button" route! I was only giving him them when he did something on the potty but may be a good idea to give him one anyway when I try and explain to him why he should use potty he just gives me a kiss! think he knows how to avoid the issue!!

And the glass of wine has turned into a couple of glasses! well it was a week potty training!!!
