Picking godparents?

I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right category, but I'm really unsure what to do.
We are due to get our son baptised soon and we have to pick godparents.
My husband is picking a sibling but I honestly have no one to pick from my side of the family or any friends.
My closest friend lives in a different country and I really just had a groundbreaking moment that I don't have anyone I could call with an emergency let alone look after my child if gos forbid something were to happen to me and DH.

I'm not sure what to do? And have just been feeling very down about it now that I've been sitting thinking about it

I would see godparents as a symbolic thing, they're not signing up to look after your child if something awful happens. I wouldn't sweat it too much, just have two people from your husband's side, or who are friends with you both. Xx

Could your friend be a godparent still but just not there at the christening? Ive been to one before where they lived away and so couldnt attend but are still a godparent?
